Job Overview: The position of International Consultant for Copy-Editing Services at UN Women Bangladesh involves providing high-quality copy-editing services for various English documents, including research studies and reports. The consultant will work closely with the Manager of the relevant Programme Unit or Communications Analyst to ensure that all documents adhere to UN editorial guidelines and UN Women's established standards. The role requires the consultant to produce reader-friendly, accessible, and timely documents such as donor reports, study reports, briefs, brochures, and other materials. The consultant may also be required to make substantive editorial changes, including rewriting sections and formatting documents. The consultancy is home-based, and the consultant will need to use their own device for the work. The contract will span from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2027, with a maximum of 90 days of services required during this period, depending on the needs of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for copyediting drafts and knowledge products in line with UN editorial guidelines and UN Women's established standards. This includes producing high-quality, reader-friendly documents that are accessible and results-based. The consultant will proofread print-ready versions of documents and may need to make substantive editorial changes, including rewriting sections and formatting. The consultant will be engaged under a retainer contract, meaning they will be contacted based on the need for copyediting services and their availability. The number of days required for each assignment will vary depending on the length and quality of the draft document. The consultant is expected to work independently from their home and will not be provided with office space or devices. If any unforeseen travel is required, it will be covered by UN Women, and the consultant will receive a per-diem based on the United Nations daily subsistence allowance rate.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a minimum of a master’s degree in social sciences, international development, communications, or a related field. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in these fields combined with at least 7 years of relevant work experience may be considered. The consultant must have excellent written and editorial skills in English and a strong background in editing documents. Experience in editing documents related to gender and development issues is considered an asset, as is prior experience in working with a UN agency. The consultant should also have experience in copyediting donor reports, advocacy briefs, and communications products.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess at least a master’s degree in social sciences, international development, communications, or a related field.
