Job Overview: The position of UN Volunteer at the International Poverty Reduction Center in China involves supporting the project 'Building a Global Poverty Reduction and Rural Development Partnership towards Global Poverty Eradication.' The volunteer will work under the supervision of the Head of the International Exchanges Division, focusing on transitioning from generic experience sharing to problem-solving and action-based learning. The role includes organizing forums, conferences, and workshops related to poverty reduction and South-South cooperation, facilitating international exchanges, and liaising with key partners. The volunteer will also contribute to knowledge sharing products and assist in documentation procedures, while gaining insights into volunteerism and participating in UNV activities.
Duties and Responsibilities: 1) Organize poverty reduction and South-South Cooperation forums/conferences/workshops, including designing agendas, communicating with experts, drafting invitations, facilitating meetings, and preparing reports. 2) Support international exchange activities by ensuring timely execution and providing logistical assistance. 3) Liaise with domestic and international organizations, NGOs, and media for project administrative tasks. 4) Develop knowledge sharing products for South-South cooperation. 5) Assist in annual archiving and documentation procedures. Additionally, volunteers are encouraged to strengthen their understanding of volunteerism, participate in UNV activities, contribute articles and publications, assist new volunteers, and promote online volunteering.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess research experience in poverty reduction, social development, or rural development. Familiarity with social development and experience in planning and implementing development projects, forums, and workshops are essential. Strong coordination and organizational skills, the ability to work under pressure, and the capacity to build supportive relationships within a team are required. A willingness to learn and update skills regularly is important, and familiarity with UNDP procedures is considered an asset.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background in social sciences, development studies, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a solid understanding of poverty reduction strategies and social development principles.
Experience: Candidates should have prior experience in poverty reduction, social development, or rural development projects. Experience in organizing events, workshops, and seminars is highly valued, along with a proven track record of working collaboratively in a team environment.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in Mandarin or other languages relevant to the region is considered an advantage.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Beijing, China, where the volunteer will receive a standard living allowance to cover accommodation and basic living expenses. The volunteer will also be entitled to health, life, and disability insurance, a Settling-in Grant, and end-of-assignment allowances. The role includes 2.5 days of personal leave per month and UN official holidays. The living conditions in Beijing are favorable, with access to quality public infrastructure and health services.
