Job Overview: The National UN Volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the Head of the Cooperation Division at the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC). The primary focus of this position is to implement and support the management of poverty alleviation projects, transitioning from generic experience sharing to problem-solving and action-based learning with developing countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The volunteer will play a crucial role in maintaining the South-South cooperative platform established between China and other developing countries, contributing to the project 'Building a Global Poverty Reduction and Rural Development Partnership towards Global Poverty Eradication.' This project aims to enhance IPRCC's institutional capacity to address poverty challenges and promote sustainable development, particularly for vulnerable groups such as women, children, migrants, and the disabled.
Duties and Responsibilities: The National UN Volunteer will undertake a variety of tasks, including compiling and editing project inputs and documents such as internal progress reports, work plans, budget management, and project updates. The volunteer will assist in translating and proofreading memos, brochures, emails, and other documents in English and/or Chinese. They will also support project supervision, monitoring and evaluation, and data collection. Additionally, the volunteer will engage in project-related outreach activities, including workshops and seminars, and maintain communications with key partners. Conducting research on poverty alleviation and international development issues as requested, and managing daily operational workflows of the Cooperation Division are also part of the responsibilities. Furthermore, the volunteer is encouraged to strengthen their understanding of volunteerism, participate in UNV activities, contribute articles for UNV publications, assist with the UNV Buddy Programme, and promote online volunteering.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong writing and editing skills in both Chinese and English, along with good communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is essential, and candidates should demonstrate sound judgment, diplomacy, and sensitivity in handling confidential matters. Attention to detail, deadline consciousness, and effective time management abilities are crucial for this role. The ability to work courteously within a team and with counterparts is also important.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required, typically a degree in social sciences, international development, public policy, or a related field. Candidates with experience or coursework related to poverty alleviation, development studies, or project management will be preferred.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have some level of experience in project management, research, or related fields. Previous volunteer experience, particularly in international development or poverty reduction, is advantageous. Familiarity with the UN system and its operations is a plus, but not mandatory.

Additional Notes: The National UN Volunteer position is based in Beijing, China, where high-quality public infrastructure and health services are available. The volunteer will receive a standard living allowance intended to cover accommodation and basic living expenses, along with health, life, and disability insurance. A modest settling-in grant and end-of-assignment allowances will be provided, as well as travel to and from the duty station. The volunteer is entitled to 2.5 days of personal leave per month and UN official holidays. This position is a full-time commitment, and the contract duration is typically aligned with the project timeline.
