Job Overview: The position involves supporting the International Poverty Reduction Center in China (IPRCC) in its mission to enhance global poverty reduction efforts. The UN Volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the Head of the Training Division, focusing on transitioning from generic experience sharing to problem-solving and action-based learning. The role includes developing frameworks for training seminars related to poverty reduction and South-South cooperation, designing course content, and organizing field trips for participants. The volunteer will also provide logistical support during seminars and liaise with various stakeholders, including Chinese ministries and UNDP, to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist the Training Division of IPRCC in developing frameworks for poverty reduction and South-South Cooperation training seminars, including communication with donor agencies, designing course content, and organizing field trips.
Provide logistical support for training seminars, ensuring timely execution and coordination with related sectors.
Liaise with Chinese ministries, partner organizations, and academics for project administrative tasks.
Collaborate with UNDP to facilitate knowledge sharing for South-South cooperation.
Engage in volunteerism activities, reflect on voluntary actions, contribute articles for UNV publications, assist new volunteers, and promote online volunteering.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess research experience in poverty reduction, social development, or sustainable development. Familiarity with social development and experience in planning and implementing development projects, seminars, and workshops are essential. Strong coordination and organizational skills, the ability to work under pressure, and a willingness to learn are also required. Experience with UNDP procedures is considered an asset.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background in social sciences, development studies, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a solid understanding of poverty reduction strategies and sustainable development practices.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have experience in social development, particularly in poverty reduction initiatives. Experience in planning and executing development projects, seminars, and workshops is crucial, along with the ability to coordinate effectively with various stakeholders.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in Mandarin is highly desirable. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the region may be beneficial.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Beijing, where the cost of living is relatively high, but the quality of life is also high due to excellent public infrastructure and health services. The National UN Volunteer will receive a standard living allowance to cover accommodation and basic expenses, along with health, life, and disability insurance.
