The internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in the UN newsroom, particularly in the production of daily news and in-depth features in French. Interns will work full-time for a minimum of two months, with the possibility of extending the internship up to six months, depending on departmental needs. Interns will be supervised by the Chief of the French Unit and will engage in various tasks that contribute to the production of multimedia content.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for drafting French news articles by integrating and translating information from various sources, including reports, press releases, official statements, and resolutions. They will proofread news articles before and after publication, assist with fact-checking and background research, and help in the production of graphic, visual, and audio content. Interns will also have the opportunity to work on feature stories, conduct research and interviews, and draft feature stories. Additionally, they will review the partnerships database in collaboration with the UN Partnerships Unit, seeking new digital media and other partners, including trustworthy entities focused on fact-checking and media literacy. Other duties may be assigned as necessary, including outreach activities.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this internship, applicants must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, English, or translation studies (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). Alternatively, applicants may be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program in the same fields (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent). Candidates should be computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheet software applications, such as Microsoft Word and Excel. A demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter are essential. Additionally, candidates must show the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
Educational Background: Candidates must have completed or be enrolled in a relevant academic program, either at the graduate level or in the final year of a bachelor's degree program.
