Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer will work under the authority of the Head of Office and the direct supervision of the Senior Education Coordinator in UNESCO Mozambique. The primary function of this role is to assist in the design and development of programs, projects, and activities related to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), skills development, literacy, and non-formal education (NFE) in Mozambique. The UNV will support the implementation and coordination of activities aligned with UNESCO’s TVET Strategy (2022-2029), focusing on lifelong learning perspectives. This includes policy development, outreach strategies, organizing consultations and events, and liaising with various stakeholders to enhance UNESCO's visibility and partnerships in the field of education.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer will be responsible for several key activities: supporting policy development in TVET, skills development, literacy, and NFE; advocating for UNESCO’s involvement in these areas; assisting in outreach strategies to maintain and expand technical support and resource mobilization efforts; organizing consultations and events; contributing to reporting and knowledge management systems; liaising with government entities, UN agencies, and international institutions; identifying synergies between TVET and other UNESCO programs; and representing UNESCO in coordination forums while engaging with national authorities and civil society.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of operations relevant to UNESCO's technical capabilities. They should possess discretion, political sensitivity, and the ability to apply good judgment in liaising with various actors, especially in senior positions. A high degree of autonomy, personal initiative, and resourcefulness is expected, along with the ability to manage information confidentially and accurately. Candidates should also exhibit professionalism, integrity, teamwork, and respect for diversity, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is essential, typically requiring a degree in education, social sciences, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in education policy, vocational training, or international development would be advantageous. Candidates should also have a strong understanding of the principles of lifelong learning and the role of education in sustainable development.

Experience:
Candidates should have prior experience in education, particularly in technical and vocational education and training (TVET), skills development, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations, government entities, or civil society in Mozambique or similar contexts is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNESCO's mission and objectives, as well as experience in policy development and program implementation, will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in Portuguese is highly desirable given the local context. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the stakeholders involved in the projects.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, and the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position is based in the UNESCO Country Office for Mozambique, located in Maputo. The contract duration is subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance, with no expectation of renewal. The Volunteer Living Allowance is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities, and living expenses, along with life, health, and permanent disability insurance. In non-family duty stations classified as hardship categories D or E, a Well-Being Differential will be provided monthly.
