Job Overview: The position of Individual Consultant for HIV prevention interventions in prisons and People Who Inject Drugs (PWIDs) is crucial for addressing the public health challenges faced by these vulnerable populations. The consultant will be responsible for designing and implementing effective HIV prevention strategies tailored to the unique environment of prisons and the specific needs of PWIDs. This role requires a deep understanding of the socio-economic factors that contribute to the spread of HIV in these settings, as well as the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and health service providers. The consultant will also be expected to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions, ensuring that they are evidence-based and aligned with international best practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current HIV prevention interventions in prisons and among PWIDs.
Develop a strategic plan for implementing effective HIV prevention programs tailored to the needs of the target populations.
Collaborate with local health authorities and NGOs to ensure the successful rollout of the interventions.
Provide training and capacity-building support to prison staff and healthcare providers on HIV prevention and harm reduction strategies.
Monitor and evaluate the impact of the interventions, collecting data and reporting on outcomes.
Prepare detailed reports and presentations on the progress and effectiveness of the programs for stakeholders.
Engage with community members and organizations to raise awareness about HIV prevention and reduce stigma associated with HIV.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in public health, specifically in HIV prevention and harm reduction strategies.
Strong understanding of the legal and social issues surrounding HIV in prison settings and among PWIDs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective training programs.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in HIV prevention, harm reduction, or related areas will be considered an asset.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in public health, with a focus on HIV prevention interventions. Experience working in prison settings or with marginalized populations is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNDP processes and procedures is a plus.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Pakistan is an advantage, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities.
Additional Notes: This position is offered as a consultancy contract, with a flexible work schedule. The consultant will work remotely, with the possibility of travel to project sites as needed. The contract duration will be determined based on the project requirements and may be extended based on performance and funding availability. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with UNDP's consultancy rates.
