Job Overview: The consultant will support the Urban Health team under the Planning Finance and Economy Section (PFES) of UN-Habitat. The Urban Health team's work focuses on the interconnection between various components of the urban environment and the health outcomes of city dwellers. The consultant will be responsible for providing urban health inputs to ongoing and future projects, drafting project proposals, contributing to resource mobilization, and developing urban health normative documents. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders and participation in meetings, missions, and conferences on behalf of the Urban Health team.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for the following duties:
Support the Young Gamechangers Initiative globally and in pilot cities;
Provide urban health inputs to ongoing and future projects;
Contribute to resource mobilization and grant applications;
Seek out new partnerships and collaborations;
Develop urban health normative documents;
Provide critical analysis of existing urban health documents and instruments;
Provide inputs to guides, policy briefs, and normative outputs;
Provide urban health inputs into PFES publications and documents; 1
Mainstream urban health throughout the Planning Finance Economy Section and UN-Habitat; 1
Attend meetings, missions, and conferences within and outside UN-Habitat on behalf of the Urban Health team and Planning Finance Economy Section.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a university degree in public health, environmental studies, medicine, sustainable development, urban planning, or related fields relevant to urban development and urban health. Additionally, candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in project management and coordination in areas such as public health, global health, urban health, sustainable development, clinical practice, health systems management, urban policy, environmental health science, or research. Experience in research related to the urban environment and/or sustainability and the use of evidence-based knowledge for program development is also required. Furthermore, candidates must have experience in writing reports, documents, and correspondence.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a university degree in a relevant field such as public health, environmental studies, medicine, sustainable development, urban planning, or other related areas that pertain to urban development and urban health.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in project management and coordination, particularly in public health, global health, urban health, sustainable development, clinical practice, health systems management, urban policy, environmental health science, or research. Candidates should also have experience in research related to urban environments and sustainability, as well as in writing reports and documents.
Languages: Fluency in English and Spanish is required for this position, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is considered desirable.
