Job Overview:
The Resident Coordinator (RC) in Micronesia is tasked with overseeing the UN's development efforts in the region, including the Marshall Islands, Palau, Kiribati, and Nauru. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the UN's operational activities align with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The RC leads the UN Country Team, ensuring accountability and coordination among various UN entities. The position requires a deep understanding of sustainable development challenges and the ability to engage with multiple stakeholders, including government officials, civil society, and the private sector. The RC is responsible for advocating for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fostering partnerships to address national priorities and needs. This role also involves managing complex relationships and navigating geopolitical sensitivities while promoting human rights and gender equality.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Resident Coordinator has a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including representing the UN at high levels of government, leading the UN Country Team in developing and monitoring the UN Cooperation Framework, and coordinating support to the government. The RC is responsible for conducting context and trend analysis, promoting UN values, and engaging with various stakeholders to foster partnerships. Additionally, the RC oversees country financing instruments, leads communication efforts to promote the 2030 Agenda, and ensures the security of UN personnel. The role also includes managing the Resident Coordinator's Office and facilitating collaboration among UN entities to enhance operational efficiency and coherence.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification in relevant fields such as development studies, international relations, or social sciences. A first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree if combined with relevant experience. The position requires a minimum of 15 years of substantive experience in leadership roles at the international level, including experience in development, human rights, or humanitarian work. Previous experience as a Resident Coordinator or UN Designated Official for Security is desirable, along with a strong background in managing humanitarian programs and navigating complex political environments.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position includes a Master's degree or equivalent in fields related to development, international relations, political science, or social sciences. Candidates with a first-level university degree and relevant experience may also be considered. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of international development and the UN's operational frameworks.

Experience:
The position demands at least 15 years of substantive experience in leadership roles at the international level, with a focus on development, human rights, or humanitarian work. Candidates should have at least five years of cumulative experience in these areas at the country level, outside of their home country. Previous experience as a Resident Coordinator or in a similar capacity is highly desirable, as is experience in managing humanitarian programs and navigating politically sensitive environments.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, with a strong emphasis on the ability to read, write, speak, and understand the language at a fluent level. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Proficiency in additional languages may enhance a candidate's application but is not mandatory.

The duty station is classified as a C duty station, indicating moderate difficulty in working and living conditions.
