Job Overview: The Environmental Engineer position within the UNMISS Engineering Section is crucial for providing operational support related to environmental management in the mission. The incumbent will report to the Chief of the Environmental Engineering Unit (EEU) in Juba and will be responsible for overseeing environmental engineering activities specifically in Malakal. Duties and Responsibilities: The Environmental Engineer will undertake a variety of tasks under the supervision of the Environmental Engineering Unit (EEU). Key responsibilities include: developing and implementing environmental controls for solid waste and wastewater management; preparing and executing the mission’s environmental engineering plan; leading pilot projects for innovative waste management solutions; applying solid waste engineering expertise to design effective waste handling processes; contributing to the planning and monitoring of wastewater treatment plants; establishing communication with Field Engineering Offices; monitoring environmental situations and assisting field engineers; producing and analyzing environmental engineering data; reviewing technical drawings for compliance; supporting administrative tasks related to environmental projects; participating in cross-functional coordination; and performing additional tasks as required to support the Engineering Section. The role also involves promoting volunteerism and capacity development activities, engaging in UNV initiatives, and adhering to environmental health and safety protocols.
