Job Overview:
The National Field Officer position is crucial for the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia, as it involves direct engagement with local communities and stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of the peace agreement. The officer will be responsible for visiting meeting areas and towns to understand the local dynamics and challenges faced by the communities affected by the conflict. This role requires building strong relationships with local actors and supporting the mission's activities related to monitoring and verification. The officer will also assist in analyzing security parameters, preparing reports, and maintaining databases, all while ensuring that the mission's objectives are met in a timely and effective manner. The position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to fostering peace and reconciliation in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The National Field Officer will undertake a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: frequently visiting meeting areas and nearby towns to gather information on local dynamics; building productive relationships with local actors and communities; supporting regional teams in implementing activities related to the mission's mandate; monitoring incidents and alleged violations of the peace agreement; assisting in the analysis of security threats; preparing and analyzing reports; maintaining relationships with authorities involved in security guarantees; monitoring economic reintegration projects; creating communication materials for peace education; participating in institutional spaces for peace; serving as a liaison between UN counterparts and local actors; and performing additional functions as required. The officer will also engage in activities that promote volunteerism and contribute to the UNV community.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate a high level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to the principles of volunteering. They should possess strong interpersonal communication skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment, and a capacity for problem-solving and organization. The role requires discretion, political sensitivity, and the ability to manage information confidentially. Candidates should also show a genuine commitment to the mission and vision of the UNVMC and the UN's core values, including respect for diversity and gender equity.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences, international relations, peace studies, or a related field is required for this position. Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in areas such as conflict resolution, community engagement, or humanitarian assistance. Experience working in a multicultural environment and familiarity with the local context in Colombia will be highly advantageous. Previous experience with international organizations or NGOs is also preferred, as it demonstrates an understanding of the operational frameworks and challenges faced in peacebuilding efforts.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication in Colombia. Proficiency in English is also required, as it is essential for reporting and communication with international stakeholders. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly indigenous languages or regional dialects, would be considered a valuable asset.
