Job Posting Organization:
The position is located in the Office of the Chief, Organized Crime and Illicit Trafficking Branch (OCB), Division for Treaty Affairs (DTA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The UNODC was established to assist Member States in their struggle against illicit drugs and international crime. Job Overview:
The Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer will be responsible for providing substantive and organizational input for the implementation of the programme of work of OCB. This includes promoting the ratification and implementation of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and its Protocols, as well as the international drug control conventions. The officer will coordinate the planning and servicing of sessions of the Conference of the Parties to the UNTOC, prepare various documents, and support the work of the extended Bureau and the President of the Conference. Additionally, the officer will collect and analyze data to identify trends and provide insights for decision-making, ensuring that the work aligns with the overall objectives of the UNODC.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be responsible for a range of duties including:
  • Providing substantive and organizational input for the implementation of OCB's programme of work.
  • Coordinating the planning and servicing of sessions of the Conference of the Parties to the UNTOC and its subsidiary bodies.
  • Preparing and supporting quality assurance for various documents, including parliamentary documentation and speaking notes.
  • Serving as a focal point for cross-cutting topics at the Branch level.
  • Participating in the servicing of meetings of intergovernmental bodies regarding crime prevention and criminal justice issues.
  • Collecting and analyzing data to identify trends and provide insights through data visualization methods.
  • Performing other work-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of international standards and policies related to drug trafficking and organized crime. They should have excellent writing skills, the ability to analyze and interpret data, and demonstrate professionalism in their work. The role requires a commitment to gender perspectives and ensuring equal participation of women and men in all areas of work. Strong communication skills are essential, including the ability to tailor language and style to different audiences. Planning and organizing skills are also critical, with the ability to set clear goals and manage priorities effectively.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law, international relations, criminal justice, public or business administration, political science, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in similar fields combined with two additional years of qualifying relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in crime prevention and criminal justice, including combatting organized crime or illicit trafficking, is required. Experience in results-based programme development, implementation, and reporting is also necessary. Candidates should have experience dealing with intergovernmental bodies and servicing meetings of such bodies. Experience in monitoring and evaluation of programmes, as well as data analytics, is desirable. Work experience within the United Nations system or similar international organizations is also an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in another United Nations official language is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a multilingual environment.
