Job Overview:
The Environmental Engineer position is crucial for the UN Verification Mission in Colombia, which focuses on monitoring and supporting the implementation of the Peace Agreement. The role involves conducting environmental assessments and surveys to establish a baseline for environmental conditions in the mission area. The engineer will develop an environmental action plan and provide guidance on environmental issues that arise during mission operations. This position requires a proactive approach to promoting environmental awareness among mission staff and local authorities, ensuring compliance with environmental standards, and addressing any incidents related to pollution or health hazards. The engineer will also be responsible for coordinating environmental compliance activities and preparing reports on environmental actions across all mission sites. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Environmental Engineer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: conducting environmental assessments and operations surveys; developing the mission's environmental baseline study and action plan; advising staff on environmental issues; providing relevant environmental information; establishing a list of potentially hazardous installations; investigating complaints related to pollution and health hazards; maintaining records of environmental issues; coordinating environmental compliance activities; assessing environmental conditions through baseline studies; preparing guidance materials; developing training activities to enhance the mission's capacity; formulating and evaluating procedures and projects; reviewing contracts for waste disposal; maintaining contacts with UN agencies and NGOs; staying updated on environmental development issues; and performing any other related tasks as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong technical background in environmental engineering, demonstrating knowledge of environmental issues and the ability to apply engineering skills to solve environmental problems. The ideal candidate should exhibit professional competence, persistence in overcoming challenges, and good judgment in applying technical knowledge. A high degree of personal initiative and the ability to work independently according to established procedures are essential. The candidate should also have a commitment to accountability, operating in accordance with organizational rules, and delivering results on time and within quality standards. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms are also required, as well as the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Educational Background:
