The Procurement Group is a vital part of UNOPS, established to lead and develop the organization's procurement strategy and practices. Its core functions include articulating procurement policies, enabling operationalization through appropriate systems, providing corporate advice, and strengthening the knowledge and skills of procurement practitioners. The group aims to ensure that UNOPS procures goods and services transparently and efficiently, aligning with the organization's business strategy and identifying opportunities for service provision to partners.

Job Overview:
The Climate Specialist position is integral to UNOPS's commitment to reducing its climate footprint as outlined in the UNOPS 2022-2025 Strategic Plan. This role is focused on supporting the organization's climate action initiatives, particularly in mitigation and adaptation activities related to supply chain emissions. The Climate Specialist will work within the Procurement Group and report to both the Climate Action Programme Manager and the Procurement Group Director. The position may require travel to field offices and other relevant events, emphasizing the need for flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Climate Specialist will manage the implementation of the Scope 3 contribution Climate Action Plan (CAP), developing pathways for targeted reductions in value chain emissions. Responsibilities include reviewing and developing methodologies for establishing baselines of UNOPS scope 3 emissions, designing GHG reports, and creating guidance for GHG reduction in procurement and supply chains. The role also involves capacity building through the development of training materials and communication strategies to inform stakeholders about climate initiatives. Collaboration with other UNOPS experts and stakeholders is essential, as is the supervision of the Climate Analyst supporting the CAP. The Climate Specialist will contribute to knowledge management by capturing case studies and best practices related to climate activities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in climate science, logistics, humanitarian development, engineering, supply chain, environmental sustainability, sustainable procurement, or international development. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in these fields with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted. The role requires a strong background in emission reduction strategies, CO2 emissions calculations, and capacity building related to climate change.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in relevant fields is required. A Bachelor's degree in the mentioned areas or related fields, combined with two additional years of relevant experience, may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of combined experience in emission reduction, CO2 emissions calculations, and climate change capacity building. A minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience is required, along with at least 6 months of experience in climate reporting processes. Experience in complex organizations related to supply chain and operational sustainability is advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in written and oral English is mandatory. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.

The contract type is ongoing ICA, open-ended, subject to organizational requirements and satisfactory performance. The contract level is IICA-2 (ICS-10).
