Job Overview:
The position of Individual Contractor for Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants involves supporting the United Nations' efforts to combat trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants. The contractor will play a crucial role in organizing multi-stakeholder hearings and side events, providing secretariat support for intergovernmental negotiations, and preparing for high-level meetings related to the Global Plan of Action against Trafficking in Persons. The contractor will be responsible for drafting reports, briefing materials, and communication materials, as well as maintaining a repository of records related to the appraisal process. This role requires a proactive approach to engage various stakeholders and ensure effective communication throughout the process.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The contractor will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
  • Assisting in the preparations for a multi-stakeholder hearing convened by the President of the General Assembly, aimed at fostering engagement from civil society and the private sector.
  • Providing secretariat support during intergovernmental negotiations on the 2025 Global Plan of Action against Trafficking in Persons Political Declaration.
  • Supporting the preparations for the high-level meeting of the General Assembly scheduled for November 202
  • Drafting and contributing to various written outputs, including reports, briefing materials, and presentations, with a focus on trafficking in persons.
  • Developing communication and advocacy materials related to the appraisal process, including social media content and web stories.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive repository of deliberations and records pertaining to the appraisal process.
  • Performing other related tasks as required by the UNODC New York Liaison Office.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Law, International Relations, Political Sciences, or related fields. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Additionally, candidates should have at least five years of relevant work experience in areas related to organized crime, with a sound understanding of the international framework against organized crime, particularly trafficking in persons. Experience in servicing intergovernmental processes and organizing meetings is also desirable, along with familiarity with the modalities of international organizations. Experience in communication and outreach tasks, such as writing web stories and managing social media, is an asset. Experience within the UN system or similar international organizations is also preferred.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in Law, International Relations, Political Sciences, or related fields is required for this position.
