Job Overview: The Transport Assistant position is crucial for the effective management of transport operations within the UNOWAS. The role involves overseeing the dispatch sub-unit, ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), and providing recommendations to minimize repair costs for the mission's vehicles. The Transport Assistant will be responsible for monitoring vehicle usage through the Carlog systems platform and ensuring that transportation services are efficiently provided to mission personnel. This position requires a proactive approach to fleet management, including inventory control, budget proposal development, and technical evaluations of vendor bids. The Transport Assistant will also play a key role in ensuring that all transportation equipment is maintained in good working order and that personnel are informed about available transport services.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Transport Assistant will carry out a variety of duties, including but not limited to: monitoring the distribution of non-expendable transport assets, conducting bi-annual physical inventories, maintaining records in fleet management databases, preparing Business Object Reports, coordinating Mission Vehicle Establishment Committee meetings, and participating in the development of annual budget proposals for the Transport Section. The role also involves implementing the Vehicle Replacement Policy, processing vehicle write-off cases, providing technical expertise on Contingent Own Equipment (COE), and ensuring the availability of vehicles for temporary assignments. Additionally, the Transport Assistant will analyze transportation requests, supervise route planning, establish service timetables, and prepare information regarding transport services for mission personnel. The position requires monitoring vehicle maintenance, ensuring compliance with established procedures, and maintaining documentation related to assigned duties.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. A technical or vocational certificate in mechanical engineering, transportation, logistics, or a related field is desirable. Additionally, a valid driver's license is required. The position demands a minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in motor vehicle transport operations or a related area. Experience in procurement processes, contract management, performance monitoring, vendor management, and transport planning is essential. Familiarity with international operations in a post-conflict environment is considered an asset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a high school diploma or equivalent.
