Job Overview: The Global Risk & Compliance Advisor position at NRC is designed for an experienced professional who will provide expert advice on the development and operationalization of NRC's risk management framework. This role involves supporting management teams in addressing complex, high-risk issues across various NRC operations. The advisor will work collaboratively within a global team, sharing expertise and adapting to shifting priorities to deliver effective risk and compliance support. The successful candidate will be responsible for advising management groups in assigned country offices and regional teams on identifying, assessing, monitoring, and managing risks that affect operations. This includes providing guidance on high-risk issues, developing function-specific risk management procedures, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and audit recommendations. The advisor will also play a crucial role in training and capacity building for staff with risk and compliance responsibilities, fostering a collaborative working relationship within the risk and compliance community, and contributing to the development of organizational policies and tools to enhance risk management activities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Global Risk & Compliance Advisor include:
Providing expert advice and support to management groups in assigned country offices and regional teams on risk identification, assessment, monitoring, and management.
Advising on high-risk issues and strategies for addressing them, including risk management strategies, mitigations, and internal controls.
Supporting the development of function-specific risk management procedures and tools, ensuring alignment with external requirements and internal control frameworks.
Ensuring compliance with key internal controls and the implementation of high-risk audit recommendations.
Assisting country offices with issues related to risk management, data protection, anti-corruption, and sanctions/counter-terrorism requirements.
Organizing training and capacity-building initiatives for staff with risk and compliance responsibilities, including the development of relevant training materials.
Building collaborative relationships within the risk and compliance community and facilitating the sharing of best practices and learning.
Contributing to the strategic input for country office risk and compliance priorities, staffing, procedures, and tools.
Developing and maintaining organizational policies, procedures, tools, or digital systems to ensure effective implementation of mandatory risk management activities and prevent corruption and fraud. 1
Providing information to managers regarding the status of risks, effectiveness of controls, and incidents across the organization. 1
Complying with NRC policies and procedures, particularly those related to the function.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Global Risk & Compliance Advisor position include:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in risk and compliance functions within an international organization or in the humanitarian sector, specifically in auditing, monitoring, evaluation, or support functions such as logistics, finance, or HR.
Documented results related to the responsibilities of the position.
Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory.
Knowledge and skills in the international regulatory context applicable to international non-governmental organizations (INGOs).
A university degree in risk management, compliance, internal audit, law, or a related field is considered an asset.
Fluency in French will be given higher weight in the assessment of candidates.
Familiarity with the regulatory context for INGOs in at least one of the regions where NRC operates, with a preference for knowledge of the Central and West Africa region's regulatory context.
Experience with the maintenance of information management systems is an asset.
Educational Background: Candidates for the Global Risk & Compliance Advisor position should possess a university degree in a relevant field such as risk management, compliance, internal audit, law, or a related discipline. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices related to risk management and compliance in a humanitarian context.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in risk and compliance functions. This experience can be gained from working in international organizations or within the humanitarian sector, particularly in roles related to auditing, monitoring, evaluation, or support functions such as logistics, finance, or human resources. The candidate should have a proven track record of managing complex risk issues and providing strategic advice to management teams.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, both in written and verbal communication. Additionally, fluency in French is highly desirable and will be given higher weight during the assessment of candidates. Knowledge of other languages relevant to the regions where NRC operates may also be beneficial.
Additional Notes: The preferred duty station for this position is Dakar, Senegal, but other possible duty stations include Oslo, Goma, and Abuja. The contract is temporary, lasting for 2 years, and the role may require travel of up to 50%. The salary and benefits are based on NRC's Resident/Mobile salary scale, which includes accompanying terms and conditions.
