The mission's primary objective is to support the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in protecting civilians and stabilizing the country. This involves reducing threats from armed groups and violence against civilians, including sexual and gender-based violence. Job Overview:
The Renewable Energy/Photovoltaic Expert will work under the direct supervision of the Chief Engineer (CE) and will be responsible for supporting the design, purchase, and installation of photovoltaic (PV) systems. This role is crucial in establishing a replicable model for renewable energy projects within the mission area. The expert will supervise the installation of PV systems, conduct site visits, and ensure quality control in line with technical guidelines. The position requires monitoring the performance of PV investments and collaborating with the technical team to evaluate installations. The expert will also prepare technical reports, participate in project evaluations, and propose additional renewable energy projects. This role is essential for promoting sustainable energy solutions in the DRC, contributing to the mission's overall objectives of stabilization and development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Renewable Energy/Photovoltaic Expert will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting the design, purchase, and installation of PV systems as a replicable model.
  • Supervising the installation of PV systems, including SMA systems and remote monitoring systems.
  • Conducting site visits and inspections during various implementation stages.
  • Establishing and implementing quality control measures for PV products and installations.
  • Monitoring the annual performance of PV investments and analyzing results.
  • Collaborating with the technical team to evaluate grid-connected small-scale PV systems.
  • Preparing technical evaluation and maintenance reports for PV systems.
  • Participating in project evaluations and presentations.
  • Analyzing and proposing additional renewable energy projects. 1
  • Planning and coordinating installations of solar farms and PV systems. 1
  • Supervising solar installers to ensure compliance with safety standards. 1

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in renewable energy technologies, particularly photovoltaic systems. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams. Proficiency in technical report writing and communication is also required. Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in engineering, renewable energy, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in renewable energy technologies or project management will be considered an asset. Continuous professional development in the field of renewable energy is encouraged and may enhance a candidate's qualifications.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in renewable energy projects, specifically in the design, installation, and management of photovoltaic systems. Experience working in international organizations or in challenging environments, such as conflict zones or developing countries, is highly desirable. Familiarity with UN operations and protocols will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the primary working language in the DRC. Proficiency in English is highly desirable, and knowledge of local languages such as Lingala, Kikongo, Tshiluba, or Swahili will be considered an asset, enhancing communication with local stakeholders and communities.

This position is classified as a non-family assignment, meaning that personnel will not be accompanied by family members. The living conditions in the DRC can vary significantly, with basic amenities available in remote duty stations.
