Job Overview:
The Project Support Officer position is situated within the UNODC's Global Maritime Crime Programme (GMCP), specifically in the Indian Ocean West sub-programme. This role is crucial for assisting Western Indian Ocean countries in addressing maritime crime and enhancing the criminal justice chain. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator and will be responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and evaluation of program activities related to maritime crime and criminal justice. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying technical assistance needs and developing sustainable strategies for capacity building within maritime law enforcement and criminal justice authorities. The Project Support Officer will also contribute to policy coordination, evaluation functions, and the preparation of various written outputs, ensuring that the program's objectives are met effectively and efficiently.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Project Support Officer include supporting the development and implementation of program activities under the GMCP, conducting research to identify capacity building needs, providing input on project and budget revisions, contributing to policy coordination and evaluation functions, supporting monitoring and evaluation activities, preparing written outputs such as background papers and reports, providing administrative support for meetings and workshops, managing procurement processes, and supporting field missions. The officer will also be expected to apply an Age, Gender, and Diversity (AGD) perspective in all activities and report on achievements related to volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Project Support Officer position should possess a strong understanding of maritime crime and criminal justice issues, as well as experience in project management and implementation. They should demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, respect for diversity, and a commitment to continuous learning. Strong planning and organizing skills, along with effective communication abilities, are essential. The ideal candidate will also have a genuine commitment to the principles of voluntary engagement and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The successful UN Volunteer will be based in Pretoria, South Africa, where living conditions are generally favorable. The position offers a Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of $2431.49, a one-time entry lump sum of $4000 at the start of the assignment, medical insurance, life cover, and annual leave. Additionally, volunteers will have access to various learning platforms and will receive a one-time exit lump sum at the end of their assignment. The role is full-time and involves working closely with the UNODC team to ensure the successful implementation of the GMCP initiatives.
