Job Overview: The Research Assistant position is integral to the project focused on addressing climate change impacts on water availability at the community level in Lebanon and Jordan. The role involves providing comprehensive research and logistical support to ensure the successful implementation of project activities. The Research Assistant will work within the Climate Change and Natural Resource Sustainability Cluster at ESCWA, contributing to various initiatives aimed at enhancing understanding and responses to climate-related challenges. This position requires a proactive approach to research, communication, and collaboration with stakeholders, ensuring that project objectives are met effectively and efficiently.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Research Assistant will be responsible for a range of duties, including but not limited to: conducting research on topics related to climate change, water scarcity, displacement, and urban planning; supporting the interview process for project beneficiaries and stakeholders, which includes providing logistical and in-person support during field visits; assisting in drafting content for the project website and social media posts to raise awareness about project activities in both English and Arabic; providing substantive input and logistical support for national and regional steering committee meetings, as well as for regional and international events; supporting the production and proofreading of substantive outputs, infographics, summaries, and communication materials in English and Arabic; and assisting with administrative arrangements and dissemination of project-related engagements during meetings.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a first-level university degree in a relevant field such as environment, international development, or urban planning. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate a minimum of three years of experience in areas related to climate change, urban planning, displacement, and water-related topics. Experience in providing logistical support for planning regional and national level meetings is also required. Furthermore, a minimum of one year of experience working on water and climate change challenges at the community level in the Arab region is desirable. Knowledge of effective communication strategies regarding environmental issues is also considered an asset.
Educational Background: The position requires a first-level university degree in a relevant field, such as environment, international development, urban planning, or a related discipline. Candidates must submit a copy of their educational degree as part of the application process, as incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of three years of relevant experience in fields related to climate change, urban planning, displacement, and water issues. This experience should include providing logistical support for planning and executing regional and national meetings.
