DRC's activities in Syria include distributions of non-food items (NFI), shelter, water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH), protection, education, livelihoods, and mine risk education across six governorates, including Damascus and Rural Damascus.
Job Overview: The Protection Officer - Case Management (Caseworker) is responsible for the effective implementation of protection case management services aimed at individuals at heightened risk. This role involves working closely with the Protection Team Leader and Protection Manager to ensure that the case management aligns with DRC's overall protection strategy in Syria. The officer will be tasked with providing comprehensive case management assistance, which includes conducting assessments, developing action plans, and ensuring that clients receive the necessary support and services. The position requires a strong understanding of protection issues and the ability to work empathetically with vulnerable populations. The officer will also be responsible for maintaining accurate case files and ensuring confidentiality while advocating for clients' needs and rights.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Protection Officer include identifying and receiving referrals of individuals at heightened risk, providing comprehensive case management assistance in line with DRC's standard operating procedures, conducting household visits and interviews to assess needs, and informing clients about their rights and available services. The officer will work with clients to develop and implement action plans, assess risks, and organize cash for protection provisions as needed. Maintaining up-to-date service mapping and fostering relationships with service providers is essential, as is ensuring accurate case documentation and participation in case conferences. The officer will also submit timely reports, participate in training initiatives, and carry out other relevant tasks as assigned, all while adhering to DRC's Code of Conduct and safety procedures.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess relevant professional experience of at least 2 years, particularly in social work and counseling. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with empathy and respect are essential, as is the ability to maintain confidentiality and prioritize client safety. A solid understanding of humanitarian programming, especially in protection and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support services, is required. The candidate should demonstrate strong organizational skills, the ability to work under pressure, and effective problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in MS Office applications is necessary, along with the capability to work effectively with diverse populations and address barriers faced by individuals at risk of discrimination.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of social issues and the needs of vulnerable populations, which is critical for effective case management and support.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience, particularly in areas related to social work and counseling. This experience should include direct engagement with vulnerable populations and an understanding of the challenges they face, as well as familiarity with case management processes and humanitarian programming.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written Arabic is essential for this role, as it is necessary for effective communication with clients. A working knowledge of English is preferred, as it may be required for reporting and collaboration with international teams.
Additional Notes: The contract for this position is for a duration of 8 months, and it is classified at a non-management level (H2). The expected start date is as soon as possible, and the position is based in Rural Damascus, Syria.
