Job Overview: The Deputy Director will play a crucial role in formulating and implementing the substantive work programme of the UNODC's Division for Operations. This position requires a strategic leader who can coordinate with the Director and senior managers across various divisions to ensure the effective delivery of technical assistance programmes and advisory services. The incumbent will be responsible for adapting UNODC field operations to align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and will lead efforts in strategic planning and cooperation within the UN framework. Duties and Responsibilities: The Deputy Director's responsibilities include leading and supervising the Division's work programme, contributing to strategy and policy formulation, supporting the Director in adapting field operations, and overseeing compliance with corporate management issues. The incumbent will also coordinate the preparation of reports for intergovernmental bodies, manage the Division's budget and resources, and provide guidance on personnel matters. Additionally, the Deputy Director will represent the Division at various meetings, lead data analysis efforts, and ensure the effective functioning of the Division through programmatic and administrative tasks. Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in economics, business or public administration, law, political or social sciences, international relations, or a related area is required. A first-level university degree in similar fields, combined with qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: A minimum of fifteen years of progressively responsible professional experience in international technical assistance programme management related to drug control, crime prevention, anti-corruption, and/or terrorism prevention is required. At least five years of senior-level experience in overseeing technical cooperation programmes at the field level is necessary. Candidates should also have experience in monitoring and evaluation, strategic planning, and managing financial and human resources in accordance with established policies. Experience within the UN system or similar international organizations is desirable, as is experience in data analytics.
Languages: Fluency in English is required, and knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is considered an advantage, as the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat include English and French.
Additional Notes: This position is financed from extra-budgetary resources, and the initial appointment will be for a period of one year, subject to funding availability.
