Job Overview: The Junior AI Engineer position is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to the development of cutting-edge AI and machine learning solutions within the Data Science and Decision Support Division (DSDSD) at ESCWA. The position involves interpreting complex datasets, performing advanced data pre-processing, and implementing modern machine learning and large language model algorithms. The Junior AI Engineer will be expected to collaborate with senior data engineers and scientists, ensuring that ML/LLM solutions are effectively integrated into broader projects, thereby enhancing the overall data science capabilities of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Junior AI Engineer will report to the Chief of the Data Science and Decision Support Division and will work under the direct supervision of the Head of the Decision Engineering and Analytical Insights unit. The key responsibilities include:
Developing and deploying machine learning and large language model algorithms, ensuring they are optimized for performance and scalability.
Supporting data preparation efforts, including data collection, cleaning, and pre-processing to ensure high-quality inputs for analytical models.
Analyzing complex datasets to identify patterns, particularly those related to job skills market trends.
Collaborating with senior data engineers and data scientists to integrate ML/LLM solutions into broader projects.
Continuously refining existing models and algorithms to enhance their performance.
Providing technical support in all aspects of ML/LLM development and deployment.
Adhering to professional software engineering standards, including coding best practices, version control, rigorous testing, and code reviews.
Communicating technical concepts clearly and concisely in both written and verbal formats.
Performing additional related tasks as needed to achieve project goals.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, or a related field. A minimum of 2 years of professional work experience in an AI/ML engineering role or a closely related position is required. Candidates should have a strong understanding of machine learning and AI algorithms, techniques, and state-of-the-art methodologies. Proficiency in database design, data normalization, and advanced data analysis using SQL, Python, and R is essential. Additionally, a minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience with self-service analytics and data visualization tools is required. Practical experience with cloud-based data technologies such as AWS or Azure is also necessary, while familiarity with cloud ETL tools is desirable. A demonstrable interest or experience in developing and deploying large language models (LLMs) is highly desirable.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, or a related area.
