Job Overview: The Communication Officer is crucial in enhancing Action Against Hunger's visibility and impact through strategic communication initiatives. This role involves developing and managing compelling content in collaboration with regional and HQ communication teams, maintaining the organization's website and social media platforms, and ensuring consistent messaging that aligns with organizational goals. The Communication Officer will also manage media relations, cultivate relationships with journalists, and support internal communications by producing engagement materials. Additionally, this position contributes to advocacy efforts aimed at promoting policy change and raising awareness about humanitarian, peace, and developmental issues. The officer will gather communication information and oversee the preparation of various communication outputs, ensuring high-quality messaging for reports to donors, partners, and stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communication Officer's key responsibilities include developing high-quality content such as documentaries, factsheets, photographs, case studies, social media posts, and reports that highlight the impact of Action Against Hunger's programs. The officer will collaborate with the communication team to maintain and update the organization's website and social media platforms, ensuring engaging content that attracts and retains supporters. Responsibilities also include managing media relations by maintaining a database of media contacts, developing outreach strategies, and preparing representations for media interviews and public events. The officer will support internal communications by creating engagement materials to keep staff informed and engaged. Furthermore, the Communication Officer will develop relationships with journalists to promote positive media coverage and support advocacy efforts by creating communication materials that reflect the organization's humanitarian, peace, and development programming. The role also involves budget management for communication activities and monitoring media coverage to provide insights for strategy refinement.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field. A minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in communications, preferably within a humanitarian organization or NGO, is required. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a proven ability to develop and execute communication initiatives and strategies, with a strong understanding of both digital and traditional media platforms. Proficiency in graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), Canva, and video editing software is essential. Experience in professional photography and videography, as well as social media management and analytics, is highly desirable. Excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, strong leadership abilities, decision-making and problem-solving skills, and the capacity to multitask in a fast-paced environment are critical for success in this role.
Educational Background: The position requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related discipline. This educational background is essential to equip the candidate with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage communication strategies and initiatives within the organization.
Experience: The Communication Officer should have at least 3-5 years of professional experience in communications, ideally within a humanitarian organization or NGO. Additional Notes: This position is full-time and requires regular attendance at the office, with the expectation of working at least five days a week. The Communication Officer must be available to work outside normal office hours or on weekends as needed.
