The organization operates in numerous countries worldwide, focusing on various health issues, including malaria and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). CHAI is committed to diversity and inclusion, ensuring that all applicants have equal access to employment opportunities, and values the contributions of individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Job Overview: The Associate position within the Malaria Team at CHAI is designed for a highly motivated individual who is eager to tackle complex problems and make a significant impact in the field of global health. This role involves direct support to the Angola government in customizing their malaria strategy to fit local contexts and securing the necessary financial resources to alleviate the malaria burden. The Associate will engage in developing national strategic plans for malaria, conducting analyses to maximize funding efficiency, and enhancing the use of financial and programmatic data for informed decision-making. The position requires a commitment to producing results and a proactive approach to problem-solving, with a strong emphasis on collaboration with CHAI Country Teams and Regional Technical Teams. The Associate will also be expected to adhere to safety protocols and maintain a productive work environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the Associate include developing Excel-based budget and cost models for malaria interventions, conducting analyses to align available funding with needs, and identifying resource gaps. The Associate will work closely with stakeholders to prioritize activities within the funding envelope and develop funding proposals to mobilize resources from entities like the Global Fund. Additional duties involve facilitating evidence-based program reviews, assisting malaria programs in overcoming funding absorption challenges, and strengthening the use of financial and programmatic data for strategic decision-making. Building strong relationships with stakeholders across various sectors, facilitating coordination among partners, and sharing updates and best practices are also key responsibilities. The Associate may be required to travel to remote regions with limited infrastructure and medical care, and will take on other responsibilities as needed.
Required Qualifications: Essential qualifications for this position include professional-level fluency in both Portuguese and English, high proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills. The candidate should be capable of managing multiple work streams simultaneously and possess the ability to work independently in high-pressure situations. Exceptional written and oral communication skills are crucial, along with a willingness to travel frequently within Africa, including rural areas. Strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills are necessary for building relationships in a multicultural environment. A Bachelor's degree in a related field such as Business, Public Health, Public Policy, or International Development is required, along with at least 2 years of relevant work experience with increasing responsibility.
Educational Background: Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, which may include Business, Public Health, Public Policy, or International Development. This educational background is essential to ensure that the Associate has the foundational knowledge necessary to engage effectively in the role and contribute to the objectives of the Malaria Team.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of working experience in a relevant field, which may include management consulting, finance, public health, or business. The experience should reflect increasing levels of responsibility and leadership, demonstrating the candidate's ability to handle complex tasks and contribute to team objectives effectively.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese and English is mandatory for this position, as the Associate will be required to communicate effectively with various stakeholders. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage, particularly if they are relevant to the regions in which CHAI operates.
Additional Notes: This position may involve frequent travel (20-40% of the time) within Africa, including trips to rural areas. The role is likely to be full-time, and while the primary focus will be on Angola, the Associate may also support CHAI's work in other countries, such as Mozambique. The organization values resourcefulness, tenacity, patience, humility, and high ethical standards in its employees.
