Job Overview: The Associate for Malaria Strategy and Financing will play a crucial role in supporting governments across Africa in utilizing advanced planning techniques to reduce malaria cases and deaths. This position is part of CHAI's Global Malaria Team, which provides technical and operational support to strengthen malaria programs. The Associate will work closely with government officials and CHAI Country Teams to develop national strategic plans, optimize funding, and improve program management. The role requires a commitment to solving complex problems and making a positive impact in the health sector, particularly in malaria control and prevention efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Associate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: developing Excel-based budget and cost models for malaria interventions; conducting analyses to align available funding with program needs and identifying resource gaps; collaborating with stakeholders to prioritize activities within funding constraints; drafting funding proposals to secure resources from entities like the Global Fund; facilitating program reviews and strategic planning; assisting malaria programs in overcoming funding absorption and implementation challenges; enhancing the use of financial and programmatic data for decision-making; building relationships with stakeholders across various sectors; coordinating efforts among government and partner organizations; sharing updates and best practices; traveling to remote areas with limited infrastructure; and performing other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess professional-level fluency in English, a Bachelor's degree in Business, Policy, Public Health, International Development, or a related field, and at least 2 years of relevant work experience with increasing responsibility. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is essential, along with strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills. The ability to manage multiple work streams, set priorities, and work independently in high-pressure situations is crucial. Exceptional communication skills and the ability to build relationships in a multicultural environment are also required, along with a willingness to travel frequently within Africa.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Business, Policy, Public Health, or International Development is required. A Master's degree in one of these fields is considered an advantage, as it may provide additional knowledge and skills relevant to the position.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of professional experience in management consulting, public health financing, or a related field. Candidates with experience working with government officials, multilateral organizations, or development donors will have an advantage. Experience living or working in resource-limited countries, particularly in Africa, is also beneficial, as is familiarity with health finance and public finance.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, both verbal and written. Additional language skills may be advantageous, particularly in languages spoken in the regions where CHAI operates.
Additional Notes: This position may require frequent travel (30-50% of the time) within Africa, including potential trips to rural areas.
