The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization founded in 2002, dedicated to saving lives and reducing disease burden in low- and middle-income countries. CHAI operates in over 40 countries, focusing on creating and sustaining high-quality health systems. Initially established to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic, CHAI has expanded its mission to include a wide range of health issues, including infectious diseases like COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis, as well as non-communicable diseases such as cancer and diabetes. The organization emphasizes sustainable impact, government-led solutions, and global sharing of learnings, with a diverse team of individuals committed to its mission.

Job Overview:
The role of Epidemiologist and Technical Advisor at CHAI is designed for a highly motivated individual with a strong background in public health and analytical skills. This position involves guiding operations for cross-country disease control and elimination programs, particularly focusing on malaria and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in West and Central Africa. The successful candidate will lead a team of epidemiologists, working closely with government counterparts to enhance disease surveillance systems, conduct data analysis, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. This role requires strong communication, organizational, and management skills, as well as the ability to work independently and drive implementation efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Epidemiologist and Technical Advisor include leading malaria and NTD surveillance and analytics work, serving as a technical advisor for epidemiological questions, and contributing to the strategic vision for malaria and NTDs. The role involves overseeing the implementation of analytics and surveillance projects, organizing and analyzing datasets, and developing malaria risk maps. The candidate will also lead monitoring and evaluation efforts, guide the development of digital surveillance tools, and ensure high-quality guidelines and operational manuals. Additionally, the role includes managing a team of junior epidemiologists, collaborating with local institutions and NGOs, and representing CHAI at external meetings.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in public health, epidemiology, or a related field, along with at least 5 years of relevant work experience that includes management responsibilities. They should demonstrate enthusiasm for applying research methods to global health challenges, particularly in malaria and NTDs. Experience in strategic planning, mentoring junior staff, and strengthening disease surveillance systems is essential. Candidates should also have exceptional skills in epidemiological data analysis and proficiency in statistical software such as R, STATA, and ArcGIS.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in public health, epidemiology, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding complex health issues and applying analytical skills to real-world problems.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of work experience, with increasing levels of responsibility and leadership. Candidates should have experience in managing teams, conducting epidemiological surveys, and working with government officials and external partners. Familiarity with disease surveillance systems and the ability to analyze health data for decision-making are crucial.

Languages:
Fluency in English and French is mandatory for this role, as effective communication with diverse stakeholders is essential. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an advantage.

Additional Notes:
This position may involve extensive travel (40-50% of the time) and requires the ability to work independently in remote settings. The role is full-time and may involve collaboration with international partners. CHAI is an Equal Opportunity Employer, committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
