Job Overview:
The Associate will play a crucial role in CHAI’s efforts to improve malaria treatment and management in East and Southern Africa, particularly in Angola and Mozambique. This position involves working closely with National Malaria Control Programs (NMCPs) and CHAI country teams to enhance the quality and coverage of malaria diagnosis and treatment. The Associate will provide technical and operational support, conduct analyses, and communicate findings to stakeholders. The role requires strong project management skills, the ability to synthesize data, and effective collaboration with various teams and partners. The Associate will also be involved in developing training materials and operational support for workshops with government stakeholders, contributing to the overall goal of increasing the proportion of malaria patients treated and cured.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate's responsibilities include providing technical support for malaria case management, developing a strong understanding of the malaria landscape in Southern Africa, identifying opportunities for improving diagnosis and treatment, and developing monitoring and evaluation plans. The Associate will also document and disseminate results related to malaria case management, expand community health networks, and collaborate with government partners to address supply chain management issues. Additionally, the Associate will maintain relationships with key stakeholders, support grant management and donor reporting, and undertake any other tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Essential qualifications for this position include fluency in written and spoken Portuguese and advanced English skills. Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, economics, or a related field, along with 2-4 years of relevant experience in a demanding environment. The ability to work independently in remote settings, adapt to new challenges, and collaborate effectively with teams is crucial. Strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are also required. A willingness to travel frequently within the region is essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, economics, or other relevant fields. This educational background is critical for understanding the complexities of health systems and the specific challenges related to malaria management.

Experience:
The position requires 2-4 years of experience in a demanding private sector environment, such as strategy consulting or health commodity market intelligence, or in a public sector advisory role. Experience working in developing settings and with governments in sub-Saharan Africa is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese and advanced proficiency in English are mandatory for this role. These language skills are essential for effective communication with local partners and stakeholders, as well as for understanding and disseminating technical information.
