Job Overview:
The Driver position at UNFPA Aleppo field office is crucial for ensuring the safe and reliable transportation of UN officials and visitors. The primary responsibilities include driving office vehicles for transporting authorized personnel, delivering and collecting mail and documents, and assisting with airport formalities when necessary. The Driver must also ensure the proper maintenance of the vehicle, keeping it in good running condition and adhering to all driving regulations and safety protocols. This position is integral to the smooth operation of the UNFPA office in Aleppo, contributing to the organization's mission of promoting reproductive health and rights.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Provide reliable and safe driving services for UN officials and staff, ensuring timely transportation to various locations.
  • Drive office vehicles for the transport of UN staff, officials, and visitors, as well as for the delivery and collection of mail, documents, and other items.
  • Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport, assisting with visa and customs formalities as required.
  • Maintain accurate daily vehicle logs and assist in the preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  • Ensure the proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, including timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, oil changes, tire checks, and cleaning.
  • Keep track of all required documents and supplies in the vehicle, including insurance, registration, and first aid kits.
  • Follow established procedures in the event of an accident, ensuring compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Provide translation services in the local language for the head of the office and/or official personnel when necessary.
  • Assist office staff with filing, photocopying, and maintaining stores as required. 1
  • Help with the mailing and distribution of newsletters and publications, and manage office bills as needed. 1
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Driver position must possess the following qualifications:
  • A valid driver's license is mandatory.
  • A minimum of two years of work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system, with a proven safe driving record.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol, and local road conditions.
  • Skills in performing minor vehicle repairs are essential.
  • A strong commitment to the values of integrity, accountability, and cultural diversity is required.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed secondary level education. This educational background is essential to ensure that the individual possesses the necessary foundational knowledge and skills to perform the duties of the Driver effectively.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant work experience as a driver, particularly within international organizations, embassies, or the UN system. This experience is crucial for understanding the unique demands and protocols associated with driving for UN officials and staff.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in the region. Additionally, a basic knowledge of English is required to facilitate communication with international staff and visitors.
