DRC's activities in Syria include distributions of non-food items (NFI), shelter, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), protection, education, livelihoods, and mine risk education across six governorates, including Aleppo, Hama, and Homs, among others. The organization also provides protection and community service activities through six community centers throughout these regions.
Job Overview: The position of Casual Worker (Assisting in MEAL Works) is crucial for supporting the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) functions within the North Area office of DRC. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting quantitative and qualitative data collection activities in the field, which are essential for needs assessments and monitoring activities across DRC's operational areas in the North, specifically in Aleppo, Hama, Homs, and Idleb. The role requires collaboration with various departments, including the PDQ department in the Country Office and the Management and Programme departments in the North Area Office, to ensure that data collection work plans and priorities are effectively coordinated. The Casual Worker will also play a key role in ensuring that all activities and services comply with DRC's accountability principles and contribute to raising awareness of DRC's Community Feedback Mechanism (CFM) during data collection. This position is expected to be filled as soon as possible, and the contract is set for a duration of six months, concluding at the end of April 2025.
Duties and Responsibilities: The primary duties and responsibilities of the Casual Worker include:
Conducting quantitative and qualitative data collection activities in the field for needs assessments and monitoring across DRC's operational areas in the North.
Supporting data entry tasks using tools such as KOBO and ODK, as well as performing data cleaning and archiving.
Coordinating regularly with the PDQ department in the Country Office and the Management and Programme departments in the North Area Office to align on data collection work plans and priorities.
Ensuring that all activities and services adhere to DRC's accountability principles.
Contributing to the promotion and awareness of DRC's Community Feedback Mechanism (CFM) during data collection efforts.
Performing any other MEAL-related duties as requested by the Area Manager or PDQM.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following qualifications:
A minimum of 2 years of experience in data collection and data cleaning.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate and negotiate effectively at all levels.
Flexibility and a willingness to adapt work practices and hours, particularly in insecure environments.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and email communication tools.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work respectfully in a multicultural environment.
A self-motivated and results-oriented approach to work.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a university degree or a technical institute degree in fields such as Economics, Administration, Business Management, Finance, International Relations, Development Studies, Computer Science, or any other relevant degree, along with the required years of relevant experience.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of experience in data collection and cleaning. Candidates should demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Experience working in insecure environments and flexibility in adapting work practices are also essential.
Languages: Fluency in Arabic, both written and spoken, is essential for this position. Basic proficiency in English is preferred but not mandatory.
