Job Overview: The Health and Nutrition Officer plays a crucial role in overseeing the implementation of health and nutrition activities in the SWS State, ensuring compliance with guidelines set by WHO, MOH, and health and nutrition clusters. This position requires close collaboration with project staff, local authorities, and other partners to deliver effective health and nutrition services. The officer will be responsible for community-based management of acute malnutrition and health programming through various facilities and outreach initiatives. The role demands a strong focus on quality program delivery, timely reporting, and community engagement to promote positive behavior change. The officer will also provide technical support to Ministry of Health (MoH) facilities, contributing to health system strengthening efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Health and Nutrition Officer will be responsible for a comprehensive set of duties, including: ensuring proper documentation of activities at community and health facility levels; maintaining accurate beneficiary records; ensuring adherence to medical and nutritional protocols; managing stock levels of essential supplies; monitoring staff attendance and punctuality; preparing monthly work plans in collaboration with MoH; capacity building of health and nutrition teams; introducing programs to local authorities and community representatives; representing Action Against Hunger in meetings with MoH and partners; following up on data and reports from health facilities; ensuring timely submission of reports; monitoring trends and updating management on concerns; preparing various reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual); identifying procurement needs; managing health and nutrition commodities; ensuring community health workers' activities are on track; conducting routine mass MUAC screenings; managing stock and pharmacy effectively; and ensuring proper filling of registers and referral forms with accurate data.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a diploma in Nutrition, Public Health, Nursing, Social Sciences, or related fields, with a degree in a related field considered an added advantage. A minimum of 3 years of work experience in a similar field within the Somali context is required, along with experience in nutrition and health projects. Candidates should demonstrate humanitarian experience in medical and nutrition programs, particularly in Somalia, and possess excellent knowledge of working with MoH, UN, and NGO health systems. Strong analytical skills, proficiency in Health InformationManagement Systems Data, and competence in training and team management are essential. Computer skills in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and EPI info are also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a diploma in Nutrition, Public Health, Nursing, Social Sciences, or related fields. A higher degree in a related field is advantageous and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in the health and nutrition sector, particularly within the context of Somalia. Candidates should have a proven track record of working on nutrition and health projects, demonstrating their ability to manage and implement programs effectively.
Languages: Fluency in both English and Somali, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication with stakeholders and beneficiaries in the region.
