Job Overview: The Associate Officer - Information Analyst position is situated within the Field Integrated Operations Centre (FIOC) of UNMISS. This role is crucial for maintaining situational awareness and supporting mission leadership in decision-making processes. The information analyst will be responsible for collecting, verifying, and analyzing information to draft various reports that inform the mission's operations. The position requires a proactive approach to crisis management and operational coordination, ensuring that all standard operating procedures (SOPs) are up-to-date and effectively implemented. The analyst will also engage in contingency planning and support training exercises based on situational developments in the area of responsibility (AOR).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain situational awareness to inform mission leadership decision-making and mandate implementation by: - Collecting, triangulating, verifying, and analyzing information. - Drafting daily situation reports (DSRs), weekly reports, incident reports, and other ad-hoc reports as required. - Analyzing political and security developments/trends in the AOR for early warning. - Responding to requests for information (RFIs) from the Joint Operations Centre (JOC) and Joint Mission Analysis Centre (JMAC). - Uploading and storing information in designated databases, including SAGE.
Contingency planning and crisis management: - Ensure that all SOPs and contingency plans related to crisis management and response are properly stored and regularly updated. - Support the secretariat function of FIOC in Field Crisis Management Team (FCMT) meetings. - Based on early warning reports and developments in the AOR, support the conduct of Tabletop (TTX) and Field Training Exercises (FTX).
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and actionable reports. Proficiency in data management and familiarity with relevant software tools is essential. The role requires excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey information to various stakeholders. Candidates should demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic work environment, as well as the ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as political science, international relations, social sciences, or a related discipline is required. Advanced degrees are preferred and may be considered an asset for the position.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in information analysis, reporting, or a related field. Experience working in a UN or international organization, particularly in conflict or post-conflict settings, is highly desirable. Familiarity with crisis management and operational coordination is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both spoken and written. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those spoken in South Sudan, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's profile.
