The organization focuses on enhancing the capacity of countries in the Asia Pacific region to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and improve their economic policies. Job Overview:
The Foreign Direct Investment Webex Intern will be an integral part of the FDI team, contributing to the development of member states' skills and capacities in attracting foreign direct investment. The intern will engage in economic research and writing, particularly for the annual FDI trends publication. This role involves communication with various stakeholders, including government entities and private sector organizations, to organize meetings and events. Additionally, the intern will assist in the development of a web-based platform designed to track partner organization projects globally, which includes designing and implementing features such as a search function and interactive maps. The intern will also be responsible for stakeholder engagement, ensuring effective communication and coordination of events and meetings.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct economic research and assist in writing for the annual FDI trends publication.
  • Communicate with governments, private sector organizations, and international stakeholders to organize meetings and events.
  • Develop promotional materials for events.
  • Assist in designing and building a web-based platform to track partner organization projects globally.
  • Implement a search function, interactive map, and individual project/country pages for the platform.
  • Collaborate with team members to define the platform’s structure and functionality.
  • Test and maintain the platform, ensuring ease of use and efficiency.
  • Liaise with government ministries and private sector organizations to coordinate meetings and follow-up communications.
  • Schedule meetings with relevant stakeholders across countries and sectors. 1
  • Assist in event coordination and management.

Required Qualifications:
  • Enrollment in or completion of a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in fields such as computer science, web development, economics, finance, innovation, or international relations related to science and technology.
  • Alternatively, enrollment in or completion of the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent).
  • A good understanding of foreign direct investment and experience in web-based research.
  • Excellent written communication and networking skills.
  • Proficiency in standard software applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite.
  • A demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to its ideals.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program or the final year of a bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as computer science, web development, economics, finance, innovation, or international relations. A strong understanding of foreign direct investment and experience in web-based research is highly desirable.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a keen interest in economic research, particularly in policies related to foreign direct investment. Experience in event coordination and stakeholder engagement is a plus, as is familiarity with web development and data visualization tools.

Languages:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory. The ability to engage professionally with diverse stakeholders, including government officials and private companies, is essential.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid and full-time, with a minimum duration of three months, extendable up to six months. Interns are expected to work from 0900 to 1630 hours, with a 45-minute lunch break, five days a week, totaling 37.5 hours. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. The United Nations does not charge any fees during the recruitment process, and candidates should be aware of their visa requirements before accepting an internship offer.
