Job Overview:
The Director, Programs and PHC will be responsible for leading the strategy, development, and execution of Primary Health Care (PHC) programs in Nigeria. This role involves overseeing the full lifecycle of PHC and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) initiatives, ensuring that these programs are accessible and affordable for vulnerable populations. The Director will work closely with the Nigerian government, external stakeholders, and public health organizations to drive the success of PHC initiatives. The position requires strategic leadership, technical expertise, and strong collaboration skills to enhance the health systems and achieve universal health coverage (UHC) in Nigeria.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership & Management: Lead the development and execution of PHC program strategies aligned with global health objectives. Oversee the design and implementation of PHC programs, manage cross-functional teams, monitor program progress, and manage budgets. Identify risks and troubleshoot challenges while integrating innovations into program strategies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management: Collaborate with government agencies and external partners to strengthen the national PHC program. Build relationships with key stakeholders, including donor organizations and NGOs, and represent CHAI at global health forums.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Contribute to staff recruitment, mentor team members, and foster a culture of collaboration and accountability. Provide feedback and coaching to ensure professional growth and development within the team.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or higher in Public Health, Economics, Business Management, or a related discipline. An MD/MBBS, PhD, or equivalent experience is preferred. Additionally, a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in global health, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership position focused on PHC/UHC program strategy and implementation, is required. Proven experience managing large public health programs and partnerships, along with expertise in global health policy and regulatory frameworks, is essential. Experience working with governments, NGOs, and international organizations is also necessary, as is demonstrated experience in fundraising and donor engagement.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree or higher in relevant fields such as Public Health, Economics, or Business Management. Candidates with an MD/MBBS, PhD, or equivalent experience will be preferred, indicating a strong foundation in health-related disciplines.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in global health, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role focused on PHC/UHC program strategy, development, and implementation. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing large, complex public health programs and partnerships, as well as experience working with various stakeholders, including governments and international organizations.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is required for this position. Additional language skills are considered a plus, particularly those relevant to the Nigerian context or other languages spoken in sub-Saharan Africa.

Additional Notes:
