Job Overview:
The Program Lead for Energy Minerals and Circularity will be responsible for integrating equity into the U.S. energy minerals and circularity program. This role involves leading projects that improve mining practices both domestically and internationally, developing U.S. minerals policy that emphasizes environmental performance, respect for indigenous rights, community benefits, and governance. The position also focuses on supply chain security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security and promoting circularity through the reuse and recycling of materials such as solar PV and EV batteries. The role requires a strategic thinker who can manage projects, engage stakeholders, and conduct research to support responsible mining and circularity initiatives. The candidate will work closely with WRI experts and develop an external network for collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Strategy Development & Project Management (40%): Coordinate across WRI programs to leverage expertise and develop innovative approaches to address energy minerals and circularity challenges. Manage projects for various clients, ensuring deliverables, timelines, and budgets are met. Supervise junior researchers and interns, and support grant writing and management efforts to expand the program's work.
  • Stakeholder Engagement (30%): Organize and present at meetings, workshops, and conferences. Identify and connect with stakeholders in the mining supply chain, including policymakers and private sector actors. Develop partnerships to enhance the program's impact and serve as a representative of WRI's U.S. Energy team.
  • Research and Analysis (30%): Conduct research on responsible mining practices, community benefits, and technology related to clean energy. Present findings and draft high-quality reports and briefs to communicate insights effectively.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 7 years of relevant full-time work experience, including experience in strategy development, project management, stakeholder engagement, and research. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with U.S. mining and environmental laws is essential. Knowledge of circular economy principles, particularly in relation to solar PV and EV batteries, is highly desirable. Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders are critical for success in this role.

Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree or higher in public policy, law, political science, economics, business, sustainability, environmental science, or related fields is required. A background in material science is a plus. Relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience, with a strong emphasis on project management, stakeholder engagement, and research. Candidates should have experience in managing projects and deliverables, as well as knowledge of philanthropy and government programs.

Languages:
Proficiency in verbal and written English is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages would be advantageous but is not required.

Additional Notes:
This is a hybrid position requiring 8 days per month in the Washington DC office. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application, and WRI is unable to sponsor visa work authorization. The salary range for this position is between $96,000 and $116,000, commensurate with experience.
