Job Posting Organization: The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) was established to support the peace process in South Sudan and to protect civilians. UNMISS aims to prevent a return to civil war, build durable peace, and support inclusive governance and free elections. Job Overview: The Associate Reporting Analyst position is situated within the Joint Operations Center (JOC) of UNMISS in Juba, South Sudan. This role is critical for providing the Mission leadership with a comprehensive situational overview of operational activities, including regional developments. The Associate Reporting Analyst is responsible for conducting both qualitative and quantitative analyses, preparing consolidated reports, and ensuring that the Mission is well-informed about the evolving situation in South Sudan. This position requires a proactive approach to monitoring various developments, including political, humanitarian, and security issues, and involves collaboration with multiple mission components to gather and synthesize information effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Reporting Analyst include:
Monitoring and Reporting: - Maintain a high degree of situational awareness regarding events and trends in the mission area. - Monitor major developments across various sectors, including political, governance, humanitarian, human rights, military, security, and economic aspects. - Prepare integrated reports, including daily and weekly updates, and contribute to the Secretary-General's quarterly report. - Gather information from various mission sections and draft special reports and briefings as needed. - Support crisis management and coordination of operations as requested by the Chief of JOC.
Data Analytics and Visualization: - Develop mechanisms for process improvement in data analytics and reporting tasks. - Acquire and clean data from various sources and maintain databases. - Implement data collection systems and analytics strategies to optimize efficiency and quality. - Analyze trends and patterns using statistical methods and develop reports and dashboards to summarize findings. - Support the development of the Situational Awareness Geospatial Enterprise (SAGE) within the JOC.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Associate Reporting Analyst position must possess strong analytical skills, with a demonstrated ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis. Proficiency in data management and reporting tools is essential, along with excellent communication skills. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of the political and humanitarian landscape in South Sudan and be able to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
