Job Overview:
The consultant will play a crucial role in evaluating and mapping the Supply Chain Management Unit's (SCMU) existing processes to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements. This position requires a deep understanding of process reengineering, as the consultant will introduce standard templates for process mapping and apply methodologies such as Kaizen, Lean, and Six Sigma to streamline operations. The consultant will work closely with the Quality Assurance: Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) Team to ensure that all processes align with regulatory and organizational standards. The consultancy is expected to last for three months, with a commitment of approximately 40 hours per week, and will involve flexible working hours to accommodate various time zones. The consultant will primarily work remotely but may need to visit UNFPA offices for key meetings and workshops.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct detailed reviews of all current processes across various departments and analyze end-to-end workflows to identify redundancies and areas for improvement.
  • Develop detailed process maps for one or two pre-defined pilot functions, illustrating current workflows and proposed changes.
  • Introduce Lean and Six Sigma-based industry standard tools and templates for supply chain management.
  • Train nominated staff members in process mapping techniques and familiarize them with templates for effective implementation.
  • Deliver an inception report outlining the consultant's understanding of the project, anticipated outcomes, methodology, and work plan.
  • Provide a comprehensive review report identifying inefficiencies and recommending improvements.
  • Create end-to-end high-level process maps for SCMU functions and a detailed implementation roadmap.
  • Support the establishment of guidelines for ongoing process improvements and change management procedures.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff to ensure they are equipped to implement and sustain process improvements. 1
  • Deliver a final report consolidating all findings, recommendations, and process maps, along with an implementation plan.

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in business administration, supply chain management, information management, or a related field.
  • Certifications such as Certified Process Mapping Specialist, Lean Six Sigma, or Project Management Professional (PMP) are highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in process mapping software (e.g., Microsoft Visio, Lucidchart) and familiarity with project management and workflow management tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify inefficiencies and propose actionable improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement and presentation of findings.
  • High attention to detail to ensure accuracy in mapping processes and identifying potential issues.
  • Understanding of industry best practices and standards for process mapping and improvement.
  • Experience in change management to guide the organization through transitions effectively.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in business administration, supply chain management, information management, or a related field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively analyze and improve supply chain processes.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in process improvement or business analysis is required. Candidates should have a proven track record in business process mapping, process optimization, and creating process diagrams. Familiarity with process mapping tools and experience in integrating digital solutions into re-engineered processes, such as ERP systems and advanced analytics, is considered an asset. Previous experience within international organizations and/or supply chain contexts is preferred, particularly in projects involving capacity building.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in other UN languages is considered an asset. This requirement ensures effective communication with diverse stakeholders and enhances collaboration within the international context of UNFPA's operations.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy is expected to last for three months, with a commitment of approximately 40 hours per week. The consultant will primarily work remotely but may be required to visit UNFPA offices for key meetings and workshops. The consultant is responsible for coordinating their own travel arrangements unless otherwise agreed.
