The current 8th Country Programme (2024-2028) aims to ensure that every woman and young person in Bhutan, especially those from marginalized communities, can fully realize their rights and contribute to development. UNFPA collaborates with various stakeholders, including government bodies, NGOs, and community groups, to address issues such as gender-based violence and reproductive health, while also focusing on data systems to support evidence-based advocacy and policy-making.

Job Overview:
The Disability Inclusion Associate will play a crucial role in embedding the Disability Inclusion Principle throughout UNFPA’s 8th Country Programme in Bhutan. This position is designed for a person with a disability, emphasizing the importance of lived experience in advocating for inclusive policies and practices. The Associate will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure that disability considerations are integrated into sexual and reproductive health services, gender equality initiatives, and national development plans. The role involves strategic planning, capacity building, advocacy, and research to promote a more inclusive environment for persons with disabilities, particularly in the context of Bhutan's socio-economic changes and commitment to Gross National Happiness (GNH).

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Disability Inclusion Associate will be responsible for providing expert advice and technical guidance on integrating disability inclusion across all UNFPA interventions. Key duties include supporting the UNFPA Country Office in disability-inclusive programming related to sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, and youth empowerment. The Associate will also chair working groups to promote disability-inclusive development, conduct capacity-building initiatives for UNFPA staff and partners, advocate for disability inclusion in national policies, and foster partnerships with relevant organizations. Additionally, the Associate will engage in research and data analysis to inform policy and programming, ensuring that the needs of persons with disabilities are addressed in all aspects of development planning.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of disability rights and inclusion principles, particularly in the context of sexual and reproductive health and gender equality. Experience in advocacy, capacity building, and design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design related to disability inclusion is essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society, and marginalized communities. Educational Background:
A relevant degree in social sciences, public health, international development, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in disability rights, gender studies, or public policy will be considered an asset. Candidates should have a solid understanding of the UN system and its frameworks related to disability inclusion and human rights.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in disability inclusion, advocacy, or related fields. Experience working with UN agencies, government bodies, or NGOs in Bhutan or similar contexts is highly desirable. Familiarity with the challenges faced by persons with disabilities in Bhutan and the ability to navigate complex socio-political environments will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Dzongkha or other local languages is an advantage, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities.

This position is a UN Volunteer role, which means it is not a staff position and does not come with the same benefits as UN staff. The contract duration and specific terms will be outlined in the UN Volunteer Contract. The role is full-time and requires a commitment to the principles of the United Nations, including respect for diversity and inclusion. The living conditions in Thimphu are generally safe, with moderate costs of living and access to essential services. Volunteers will receive a living allowance, health coverage, and other entitlements as per the Unified Conditions of Service for UN Volunteers.
