Job Overview: CIMMYT is seeking a dynamic, autonomous, and service-oriented individual for the position of Kitchen Assistant within the corporate services program. This position will be based at CIMMYT's headquarters in El Batán, Texcoco, Mexico, which is approximately 45 minutes from Mexico City. The Kitchen Assistant will play a crucial role in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in all food and beverage areas, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, and supporting daily operations in the food and beverage sector. The role requires a proactive approach to service and a commitment to quality, as the Kitchen Assistant will also assist in food preparation and customer service, contributing to a positive dining experience for all guests.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Kitchen Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
Cleaning all food and beverage areas according to the guidelines set by Distintivo H, using appropriate cleaning products to ensure safety in food preparation and service processes.
Conducting both surface and deep cleaning of all kitchen areas, including the dining room, Mexican Corner, community kitchen, storage, cafeteria, food truck, grocery store, vending machines, service units, warehouses, and BBQ area as directed by the immediate supervisor.
Performing deep cleaning of kitchen equipment, including refrigeration units, stoves, grills, ovens, tables, sinks, extraction hoods, filters, shelves, and cold tables, as well as smaller equipment like pots, pans, serving spoons, thermoses, cutting boards, and knives, using suitable cleaning and disinfecting products.
Cleaning drains and grease traps according to the internal cleaning log schedule, properly disposing of waste in designated containers.
Cleaning both the internal and external areas of designated service units in the dining room and cafeteria.
Managing and cleaning trash bins, including the proper handling and disposal of organic and inorganic waste.
Assisting with inventory management and organization of equipment in the dining and cafeteria storage areas.
Supporting daily operations in the Food and Beverage area to ensure efficient service.
Assisting in food preparation, including soups, rice, main dishes, desserts, snacks, and accompaniments as needed. 1
Supporting cash register operations at various sales points, handling cash and card transactions. 1
Assisting in customer service and public sales lines. 1
Restocking refrigerators with soft drink products. 1
Receiving suppliers in the cafeteria area and verifying received products against delivery tickets. 1
Assisting with the supply and placement of water jugs in dispensers as requested by the supervisor. 1
Covering shifts on weekends, during staff absences, or vacations. 1
Providing support during special events. 1
Preparing hot and cold beverages according to operational needs. 1
Assisting with catering services before, during, and after events, including transporting equipment, setup, service execution, and cleanup. 1
Ensuring excellent customer service and quality in service delivery. 2
Actively contributing to the documentation required for the recertification of food and beverage area standards (Distintivo H, Distintivo M, and Punto Limpio) by accurately filling out records. 2
Properly completing logs for the dining and cafeteria areas based on assigned activities. 2
Reporting any anomalies regarding the facilities and equipment in the food and beverage area to the immediate supervisor to ensure proper functioning of the installations.
Required Qualifications: The candidate must possess the following qualifications:
Minimum completed high school education.
At least 3 years of experience in a similar position.
Basic computer skills.
Knowledge in food and beverage preparation.
Availability to work flexible hours and rotate shifts.
Basic knowledge of the English language.
Desirable to have a driver's license and the ability to drive.
The selected individual should demonstrate competencies in communication, teamwork, customer orientation, and problem-solving.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a minimum of completed high school education. This foundational education is essential for understanding the basic principles of food safety and hygiene, as well as for effective communication and teamwork in a kitchen environment.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role, which indicates that the candidate should have a solid understanding of kitchen operations, food safety standards, and customer service practices. This level of experience is crucial for ensuring that the candidate can perform the duties effectively and contribute positively to the team.
Languages: The candidate must have a basic understanding of the English language, which is necessary for communication in a diverse workplace.
