The Operations Services Unit (OSU) team within IPMG supports organizational readiness and manages IPMG operations, ensuring that UNOPS can effectively address donor needs and implement corporate strategies.
Job Overview: The Communications Intern will work under the overall management of the OSU Manager and direct supervision of the Communications Senior Officer. The primary focus of this role is to support communication activities and provide ad-hoc support to the operations services team. The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including graphic design, proofreading, and layout of publications. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong communication skills, proficiency in desktop publishing software, and a client-oriented approach. The internship will provide exposure to UNOPS project management, infrastructure, and procurement standards, as well as experience in corporate communications. The intern will also contribute to the Project of the Year Award (POTYA) and assist in the development of knowledge products critical to UNOPS's success.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Communications support and content management:
- Edit and design documents to align with UNOPS branding.
- Implement IPMG content and publication rollout strategies.
- Support content translation into French and Spanish.
- Maintain IPMG-owned intranet pages and identify areas for improvement.
- Draft articles, presentations, and other communications on infrastructure and project management.
- Edit and publish IPMG content for electronic publication.
- Set up web conferencing and online collaborative workspaces.
- Report and analyze communications insights monthly.
Support communications-related work packages and initiatives:
- Organize the Project of the Year Award, including nomination and evaluation processes.
- Revise the IPMG internal communication strategy and onboarding package.
- Research how Artificial Intelligence can enhance communications activities.
- Provide support for UNOPS Town Halls and other corporate initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess excellent communication skills, particularly in English writing and copy editing. Strong technical skills in Google Suite and desktop publishing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) are highly desirable. Experience with digital communications, social media, content management systems, and Google Analytics is also an asset. The candidate should be client/service-oriented, structured, organized, and detail-oriented, with a willingness to learn and improve technical skills under guidance.
Educational Background: Candidates must have completed secondary school or equivalent and be studying towards a university degree in a relevant discipline or have graduated with a relevant degree within the past three years. This educational background is essential for eligibility for the internship.
Experience: While no prior work experience is required, some experience in support services, communications, desktop publication, web content management, or journalism, ideally within the development sector, is highly desirable. This experience will help the intern to effectively contribute to the team's objectives and tasks.
Languages: Fluency and proficiency in English is required. Proficiency in French or Spanish is strongly desirable, as the intern will support content translation and communication with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The internship is expected to start in June 2025 for an initial duration of 6 months, which may be extended to 12 months based on performance and funding availability. This internship does not lead to a staff position with UNOPS, and there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of USD 1631 in Copenhagen, provided they do not receive funds from other institutions. UNOPS may also provide a one-time travel lump sum depending on the location at the time of selection. Interns are responsible for their own accommodation, travel, and visa arrangements.
