Job Overview:
The Occupational Health & Safety Analyst position is crucial for promoting a safe working environment within CIMMYT's operations in Harare, Zimbabwe. The role involves advising on safety measures, conducting risk assessments, and enforcing preventative measures to ensure compliance with legal requirements. The incumbent will be responsible for establishing a safe workplace and fostering a culture of health and safety among employees. This position is open to all Zimbabweans with excellent academic records and relevant experience, emphasizing the importance of creating a safe and healthy work environment for all staff members.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The main duties and responsibilities of the Occupational Health & Safety Analyst include coordinating safety and health commission activities in Zimbabwe, conducting periodic Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) walk-downs to recommend measures for protecting workers from potentially dangerous practices, processes, and materials at the Harare station and experimental stations. The analyst will verify compliance with OH&S regulatory requirements and ensure that CIMMYT’s OH&S policies, procedures, and standards are properly applied. Additionally, the analyst will report on working conditions affecting staff health, monitor new OH&S legislation in Zimbabwe, maintain and update the OH&S document database, and support the internal Civil Protection Plan and Evacuation Drills at the stations. The role also involves supporting specific OH&S activities such as fire extinguisher inspections, hydrants, fire equipment cabinets, and eye washers, as well as training staff on these matters. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a BSc degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a relevant field. They should have at least two years of work experience in an Occupational Health and Safety environment and be conversant with Zimbabwean Occupational Health and Safety laws. Experience in setting up an Occupational Health and Safety system from scratch is also required. The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure with minimal supervision, possess good interpersonal skills, integrity, honesty, and self-motivation. Additionally, the selected candidate must exhibit competencies in people skills, critical thinking, client orientation, problem-solving, and decision-making, and should be able to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a BSc degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the principles and practices of occupational health and safety, as well as the relevant laws and regulations governing workplace safety in Zimbabwe.

Experience:
