Job Overview: The Finance Coordinator position at CIMMYT is designed for a dynamic, self-motivated, and service-oriented professional who will play a crucial role in managing financial operations. The individual will be responsible for preparing and analyzing financial statements, documenting transactions, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. The role requires a proactive approach to financial management, including the preparation of special financial reports and maintaining the confidentiality of financial information. The Finance Coordinator will also guide accounting clerical staff and contribute to the overall financial health of the organization by implementing effective accounting policies and procedures. This position is essential for supporting CIMMYT's mission and ensuring the sustainability of its projects in Bangladesh.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Finance Coordinator will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to: preparing asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information; documenting financial transactions by entering account information; recommending financial actions by analyzing accounting options; summarizing current financial status by collecting information and preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports; substantiating financial transactions by auditing documents; maintaining accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures; guiding accounting clerical staff by coordinating activities and answering questions; reconciling financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information; securing financial information by completing database backups; maintaining financial security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security by following internal controls; preparing payments by verifying documentation and requesting disbursements; answering accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations; complying with HQ and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; preparing special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends; maintaining customer confidence and protecting operations by keeping financial information confidential; maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; and accomplishing related results as needed. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor as necessary.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. A professional qualification such as CA, CPA, CIMA, or ACCA will be considered an added advantage. A thorough knowledge of the field of work or specialized equipment is essential, along with basic knowledge of administrative and/or operating protocols and procedures related to research support functions. Basic supervisory skills and experience are also required. Advanced level expertise in MS Excel is mandatory, and candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the development field, as an auditor supervisor in reputed firms, or in any local company with experience in service cost analysis by department, division, or branch. Experience handling different donor-funded projects (USAID, BMGF, EU, etc.) is crucial, and knowledge of IFRs is a must. Familiarity with local taxation of non-profit entities would be an added advantage.
Educational Background: The educational background required for the Finance Coordinator position includes a Master’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. Candidates with professional qualifications such as CA, CPA, CIMA, or ACCA will have an advantage in the selection process. This educational foundation is essential for understanding complex financial systems and regulations, as well as for effectively managing the financial operations of CIMMYT.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the development field, specifically in roles such as auditor supervisor in reputable firms or within local companies. Candidates should have experience in service cost analysis by department, division, or branch, and must have handled various donor-funded projects, including those from USAID, BMGF, and the EU. Experience in implementing procedures and policies of internal controls, as well as conducting monthly and permanent reconciliations to all accounts of the Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss statements, is also necessary.
Languages: The mandatory language requirement for this position is proficiency in English, as it is essential for communication and reporting. Knowledge of Bengali would be beneficial, as it may facilitate better interaction with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of financial operations within Bangladesh.
Additional Notes: This position is specifically for Bangladesh Nationals and is offered as an initial fixed-term contract of 1 year, with a 3-month probationary period. Continued employment is subject to performance and the availability of funds.
