Job Overview: The Finance Assistant position at CIMMYT is designed for a dynamic, self-motivated, and service-oriented professional who will play a crucial role in the financial operations of the organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing financial transactions, managing accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring the accuracy of financial records. This role requires a keen eye for detail and the ability to identify discrepancies in financial data. The Finance Assistant will also assist in preparing financial reports and maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive financial information. The position is based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and is integral to supporting CIMMYT's mission of improving agricultural practices and outcomes for farmers in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Finance Assistant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: processing and overseeing financial transactions, managing accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring the accuracy of vouchers and financial records. The candidate will prepare vouchers and relevant formats for accurate data entry into the accounting system, considering VAT and TAX issues. They will perform accounting computations and calculations, identify discrepancies, and resolve errors. The Finance Assistant will substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents and secure financial information through database backups. Additionally, the candidate will assist in preparing payments by verifying documentation and requesting disbursements, as well as compiling and analyzing account information for asset, liability, and capital account entries. The role also involves preparing financial reports as per senior instructions, maintaining confidentiality of financial information, and contributing to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a graduate or master's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. A solid understanding of the field of work and specialized equipment is essential. Basic knowledge of administrative and operational protocols related to research support functions is required. A minimum of 1 year of experience in the development field, as an auditor supervisor in reputable organizations, or in local companies handling donor-funded projects (such as USAID, BMGF, EU, etc.) is preferred. Knowledge of local taxation for non-profit entities is an added advantage. Proficiency in MS Excel is desirable, and familiarity with accounting software, QuickBooks, or ERP systems will be beneficial.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should have a graduate or master's degree in finance, accounting, or a related discipline. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of financial management and accounting practices within the context of a non-profit organization.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in the development sector or as an auditor supervisor in reputable organizations.
