Job Overview: CHAI is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong analytical and epidemiological skills to lead the design, development, and maintenance of dashboards for epidemiological analyses using R Shiny software. The role involves acquiring, processing, and analyzing multiple datasets, including geospatial data, and building user-friendly dashboards. The individual will collaborate closely with CHAI team members, academic partners, and other stakeholders to design methods, interpret outputs, and communicate results effectively through data visualization. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities for this position include leading the design, development, and maintenance of interactive dashboards using R Shiny to present forecasts of malaria metrics and commodities. The individual will support malaria country epidemiological teams by developing user-friendly scripts for analyses and integrating diverse data sources into R Shiny applications. Responsibilities also include performing data wrangling, cleaning, and transformation to prepare datasets for visualization, customizing dashboards with CSS and HTML, and collaborating with epidemiologists and analysts to ensure user-friendly and scalable outputs. The role requires conducting statistical and spatial analyses to support malaria technical teams, translating technical findings for a general audience, and synthesizing results for communication through high-quality data visualizations, presentations, reports, and publications. Additionally, the individual will develop and maintain strong working relationships with CHAI team members and partners, and undertake any other tasks as required in the role.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for this position include a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant quantitative discipline such as Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Data Science, or a related field. Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of working experience and high proficiency in a statistical programming language such as R or Python. Proven experience in developing dashboards and web applications, preferably using R Shiny, is essential. Candidates should possess superb creative problem-solving skills, high levels of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, and the ability to work independently in remote and unstructured settings. Strong enthusiasm for applying research methods and effectively communicating outcomes to solve global health problems is also required, along with exceptional data visualization, written, and oral communication skills. A willingness to travel up to 20% of the time is necessary.
