Job Overview: The Community Health Advisor position at CHAI involves leading efforts to strengthen community-based health approaches in Cameroon. The role focuses on optimizing the contributions of Community Health Workers (CHWs) within the health system, ensuring they are integrated as a sustainable part of the healthcare infrastructure. The advisor will support the government in enhancing existing CHW platforms, contribute to the implementation of the BIRCH project, and develop scalable community health systems that align with primary healthcare initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in community health, project management, and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as a trusted advisor to the CHAI country team and external stakeholders, including government bodies and NGOs.
Lead comprehensive assessments of community health programs to update the national CHW strategy, including conducting reviews, assessments, and gap analyses.
Develop and execute evidence-based community health policies and operational plans to enhance coverage of malaria and non-malaria interventions.
Strengthen systems for the collection and analysis of CHW data, making recommendations for quality improvement.
Identify opportunities for multi-sectoral collaboration and ensure integration of community health across health initiatives.
Lead knowledge-sharing activities to document lessons learned.
Foster relationships with community leaders and organizations to build effective health systems.
Identify new collaboration and funding opportunities within Cameroon.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 5 years of work experience; or an advanced degree with 2 years of relevant experience.
Fluency in English and French, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated expertise in community health systems and work.
Strong cross-cultural communication and diplomacy skills.
Proven analytical, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
Experience in evaluations and literature reviews.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in high-pressure situations.
Experience in high-risk and low/middle-income countries.
Strong work ethic and dedication to CHAI’s mission.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, with a preference for candidates holding an advanced degree in public health or a related discipline. Candidates should have a solid understanding of community health systems and public health principles.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or 2 years if they hold an advanced degree. Experience in strengthening community health programs, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, is essential. Familiarity with health systems and community health work is highly valued.
Languages: Fluency in both English and French is mandatory, with proficiency in written and verbal communication in both languages being essential for the role.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Cameroon and may require frequent domestic travel.
