Job Overview: The Peacebuilding Programme Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the design, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of peace and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security programming within the context of the Humanitarian, Development, and Peace nexus. This position requires a focus on integrating peacebuilding activities into UNFPA’s Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) programmes specifically in the Tigray region. The role may involve travel to various parts of the region to facilitate programme implementation and monitoring, ensuring that peacebuilding efforts are effectively coordinated and aligned with UNFPA’s strategic objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Peacebuilding Programme Assistant will be responsible for several key tasks, including: supporting the planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of activities that enhance the integration of youth, peace, and security initiatives in existing projects; strengthening the Tigray Regional Taskforce on Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS); assisting Community Peace Dialogue Committees; establishing relationships with relevant bureaus to promote United Nations Security Council Resolutions on YPS and Women, Peace, and Security (WPS); facilitating the participation of youth and civil society in the development of national and regional action plans; supporting capacity-building activities for implementing partners and community leaders; and drafting reports and other written outputs related to UNFPA’s peacebuilding efforts.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a first university degree in social sciences, peace and conflict studies, public health, or related fields. Additionally, at least three years of relevant community work experience in humanitarian and post-conflict settings is required. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in development, peacebuilding, and humanitarian action, along with the ability to adapt to new environments and maintain good working relationships with diverse individuals. Strong analytical and writing skills, experience in facilitating peace dialogues, and a positive, professional attitude are essential.
Educational Background: A first university degree (such as a bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in social sciences, peace and conflict studies, public health, or other related fields is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of peacebuilding and humanitarian efforts.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three years of relevant experience in community work, particularly in humanitarian and post-conflict settings. Experience working with development agencies, including volunteer capacities, is also beneficial. The role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to meet deadlines, and experience in managing multiple tasks under pressure.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in Tigrinya and Amharic is highly desirable, as these languages are essential for effective communication within the Tigray region. Knowledge of other UN languages is considered an asset.
