Job Overview: The Business Development and Grants Coordinator (BDGC) plays a crucial role in supporting the growth of the program portfolio for the Somalia Mission. This position involves contributing to new business development, managing business development data, and ensuring compliance with grants. The BDGC will work closely under the supervision of the Associate Director of Business Development (ADBD) and collaborate with Action Against Hunger's technical, financial, and cross-functional teams. The role demands a strong sense of teamwork, flexibility, and a genuine interest in exploring new funding streams. The BDGC will be responsible for drafting funding opportunity summaries, coordinating Go/No-Go decisions, maintaining BD data, ensuring donor compliance, and facilitating project cycle management meetings. This position is essential for the successful implementation of programs and the overall mission of Action Against Hunger in Somalia.
Duties and Responsibilities: The BDGC will undertake a variety of essential functions, including: 1) New Business Development: Drafting funding opportunity summaries for new calls for applications, coordinating collaborative Go/No-Go decisions, analyzing funding opportunities, and developing proposal plans. 2) BD Data Management: Maintaining accurate BD data and reports, updating mission-funding trackers, and ensuring timely electronic filing of proposal documents. 3) Grants and Compliance: Leading project cycle management meetings, ensuring adherence to contractual clauses, researching donor guidelines, and facilitating report writing trainings. The BDGC will also prepare and update various trackers and dashboards related to business development, ensuring that all necessary activities are clearly defined and completed within required timelines.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in International Development, Humanitarian Assistance, Project Management, Social Sciences, or a related field. A strong understanding of the Somali context is essential, along with a minimum of 7 years of demonstrable experience in grant portfolio management, fundraising, and external engagement. Experience in raising and managing funds specifically for Somalia is highly advantageous, as is familiarity with diverse donors such as SIDA, WFP, UNICEF, OCHA, GFFO, USAID, ECHO, and GAC. Candidates should also have proven experience in proposal development and compliance, budgeting, and costing processes, as well as strong writing skills.
Educational Background: The position requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as International Development, Humanitarian Assistance, Project Management, or Social Sciences. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of grant management and business development in the humanitarian sector.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 7 years of relevant experience in grant portfolio management and fundraising. This experience should include working with various donors and managing funds effectively, particularly in the context of Somalia. Demonstrable experience in proposal development and compliance is also necessary, along with a solid understanding of budgeting and costing processes.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as the role requires excellent written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of Somali is highly desirable, given the context of the work and the need to engage with local stakeholders effectively. Additional languages may be beneficial but are not required.
Additional Notes: This position is full-time and requires regular attendance at the office, with the expectation of working at least five days a week. The BDGC must be available to work outside normal office hours and on weekends as needed.
