Job Overview: The Human Resources Officer will provide essential HR functions related to the Country Office in Zambia. This role involves collaborating with department heads for human resource planning, talent acquisition, and staff onboarding. The officer will act as a change champion for HR initiatives and projects, ensuring employee relations and staff welfare are prioritized at the country level. The position requires the coordination of staff performance evaluations, management of personnel files, and guidance for staff on HR policy interpretation. Additionally, the officer will coordinate staff development training and manage health and wellness activities, preparing HR reports for the Senior Management Team (SMT).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Human Resource Planning: Collaborate with department heads to identify staffing needs and develop strategies for talent acquisition and management.
Talent Acquisition: Lead recruitment processes, including job postings, screening, interviewing, and onboarding new staff members.
Change Champion: Advocate for and implement HR initiatives and projects that enhance organizational effectiveness.
Employee Relations: Foster a positive work environment by addressing employee concerns and promoting staff welfare.
Performance Evaluation: Coordinate and assess staff performance evaluations, providing feedback and support for professional development.
Personnel Management: Maintain accurate and confidential personnel files for all staff members.
Policy Guidance: Assist staff in understanding and interpreting HR policies and procedures.
Training Coordination: Organize and facilitate staff development training sessions to enhance skills and competencies.
Health and Wellness: Manage staff medical insurance and coordinate health and wellness activities. 1
Reporting: Prepare and present HR reports to the Senior Management Team, highlighting key metrics and areas for improvement.
Up-to-date knowledge of Zambian labor laws is essential.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a degree in Human Resource Management. A Master's degree in the same field is considered an added advantage, indicating a higher level of expertise and understanding of complex HR issues.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience in human resources, demonstrating a solid background in HR functions and practices. Experience in a nonprofit or humanitarian context is preferred, as it provides insight into the unique challenges and dynamics of working in such environments.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with proficiency in any local language being a significant advantage. This bilingual capability will enhance communication with diverse staff and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The contract duration for this position is 24 months. The role is full-time and requires regular attendance at the office, with the expectation of working outside normal office hours or on weekends as necessary. The position may involve travel to various operational areas, which could expose the employee to challenging conditions.
