Job Overview: The Monitoring and Evaluation Officer will play a crucial role in providing monitoring and evaluation functions for the Strengthening Livelihood and Resilience of Smallholder Farmers to climate change in Southern Province, Zambia (SLARF) and other projects under Action Against Hunger Zambia. The officer will be responsible for designing the MEAL framework for project monitoring, evaluation, and learning, ensuring that data collection includes gender-sensitive and nutrition-sensitive indicators. The role involves conducting baseline, mid-term, and end-line assessments to track security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security, nutrition, and climate resilience outcomes, as well as training field teams in participatory monitoring and impact assessment tools. The officer will prepare donor reports, facilitate learning forums, and support the MEAL Manager in synthesizing data and findings into comprehensive reports. Additionally, the officer will assist in the design and development of monitoring tools, participate in field visits, conduct data quality assessments, and engage in learning opportunities to enhance skills and understanding of MEAL practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design the MEAL framework for project monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
Conduct baseline, mid-term, and end-line assessments to track food security, nutrition, and climate resilience outcomes.
Ensure data collection includes gender-sensitive and nutrition-sensitive indicators.
Train field teams in participatory monitoring and impact assessment tools.
Prepare donor reports and facilitate learning forums.
Support the MEAL Manager in preparing timely and accurate reports on program activities.

Educational Background: A degree in Monitoring and Evaluation, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Public Health, or Statistics is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively design and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks, conduct assessments, and analyze data related to food security and nutrition.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in project evaluation, particularly in nutrition and food security projects. This level of experience is crucial as it ensures that the candidate has a solid understanding of the complexities involved in evaluating programs aimed at improving food security and nutrition outcomes, as well as the ability to navigate the challenges that may arise during the evaluation process.
Languages: The mandatory language for this position is English, with excellent proficiency required. Additionally, knowledge of any local language is considered a good to have, as it can facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders, enhancing the effectiveness of monitoring and evaluation activities.
Additional Notes: The contract duration for this position is 12 months. The role is full-time and is based in Choma, Zambia.
