Job Overview: The Food Security & Livelihoods Coordinator will be a key member of the Action Against Hunger team in Lusaka, Zambia. This position involves providing technical leadership and operational support to the food security and livelihoods portfolio, aimed at improving nutrition security. The coordinator will engage with technical and operations teams, country program teams, and counterparts within the Action Against Hunger network to enhance nutrition security. The role also includes representing Action Against Hunger in relevant internal and external forums, contributing to communication efforts, and facilitating the dissemination of information and experiences related to food security and livelihoods. The coordinator will be responsible for ensuring compliance with technical guidelines and policies, promoting innovative approaches, and identifying funding opportunities to support the organization's strategy in Zambia.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Food Security & Livelihoods Coordinator will perform a variety of key activities, including engaging with technical and operations teams to improve nutrition security, representing the organization in relevant forums, contributing to external relations and communication efforts, facilitating the sharing of information and case studies, advancing advocacy strategies, providing technical support for food security and livelihoods interventions, ensuring compliance with technical guidelines and policies, conducting secondary analysis of programs, documenting and disseminating program experiences, identifying innovation and research opportunities, informing regional strategy, coordinating with senior advisors and partners, leading the design of multi-country FSL opportunities, identifying funding opportunities, advising on recruitment of technical staff, facilitating briefings for technical staff, and supporting the professional development of FSL coordinators.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in food security, Agricultural Education and Extension, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, Food Policy and Applied Food Science, socio-politics, or related fields. Additionally, at least ten years of experience in food systems, nutrition-sensitive agriculture, livelihoods, and resilience is required. Membership in a relevant professional body is also necessary. Candidates should have experience working in humanitarian and development contexts, recovery and rehabilitation, and collaboration with national governments, regional bodies, UN agencies, and INGOs. Strong analytical and technical skills in food security and livelihoods are essential, along with field experience in programming, including agroecology, value chain analysis, and emergency food assistance.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in relevant fields such as food security, Agricultural Education and Extension, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, Food Policy and Applied Food Science, or socio-politics is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of food systems and livelihoods, as well as for developing effective strategies to address food security challenges.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of ten years of experience in food systems, nutrition-sensitive agriculture, livelihoods, and resilience. This experience should encompass work in both humanitarian and development contexts, including recovery and rehabilitation efforts. Familiarity with national governments, regional bodies, UN agencies, and INGOs is also important, as is field experience in food security and livelihoods programming.
Languages: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if relevant to the regions in which Action Against Hunger operates.
Additional Notes: The contract for this position is for 18 months, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability. The role is full-time and based in Lusaka, Zambia.
